Oman had an initial technology advantage over the Swahili coast. Omanis knew of Middle Eastern Science and traded with the Indians and Portuguese and got all kinds of shipping advantages. Nowadays technology gets spread fast through the internet and you can't economically dominate people based on superior technology. Also, applying things that happened centuries ago to the modern world is a fallacy in itself.

Only way Somalia can redeem itself is through abusing international law and becoming a pariah state that allows for technologies that are banned elsewhere to be used in Somalia (human genetic engineering etc most likely).

Then the south took full controle,marginalizing Somaliland.The situation got worse after Darod Siad Barre came in power and started that brainless Darod war against Ethiopia! Realising there was zero benefits and only disadvantages to the union,Somaliland left the union and we got burned for it!
