as a Scandinavian it makes sense all the girls from my older sisters generation are only just getting married and many are on there first child at 28, while the last born of my mother 7 children was born when she was 32.

I see this as an absolute win since our community got enough problems and only having 2 kids to focus on, will help with the wealth building for our diaspora

The 1.5 generation who were born in Somalia but grew up in the west are in their early 30s by now and according to the report

Anyways, I am not surprised. There are so few Somali kids around now. Whenever I see millennial Somali parents, they'll have 2 kids max but the most common household is mom and 1 kid. Even western cadaans have more kids than millennial Somalis. There's more to the story than Somali women getting an education. I blame other reasons.

Our parents generation is the last to have 4+ kids on average, the biggest diaspora somali population are those born between 1990-2010, that generation will have less children on average and our population in the west will decrease, even fobs tahriibing to the west nowadays only have 2 kids max.

The old school Somalis got three bedroom houses from the government or many lived in overcrowded 2 bedroom houses with multiple bunk beds.

Second generation Somalis who managed to get council houses and married in their 20-30s are only be able get 1-2 bedroom houses. Most don’t want to and can’t afford to have more than 3 kids in over crowded housing like their parents did. In the UK, the cap of max 2 children on child benefits means that you can’t just keep having babies and get more money from the gov for each one.

Then you look @ the housing market out of social housing market and barely any Somalis buy houses.

Private rent for more than 3 kids is also hella expensive. Thats why more and more young Somali couples migrate to places Qatar/UAE in government jobs where thy provide assistance with housing and no tax.

The other factor is cultural: western educated xalimos don’t want to have kids every 1.5 years,possibly go through a tonne of miscarriages for the sake of a large family, and be a double fully time house wife with six kids in a ghetto council residence.

I think this finding is true for all one and a half generation (means Somalis who were born in Somalia but grew up in the west) and second generation(those Somalis born in the west) Somalis all across the west.

I think our TFR is below replacement level. We are also the poorest diaspora and our stats does not look good in any measurement. High crime rate, below poverty line, low education rate and we marry more or less the same time as the natives, late 20s to early mid 30s.

The good news is Somalia will be 60 million in 2090 according UN estimates. This means there will be more than 100 million Somalis.

Why is that?

Because raising a child in west is very expensive and wages aren't increasing. Popping out several kids without the financial means is low iq behavior

Its clear the previous generation didn't do a fantastic job building a conducive mentality and environment for the next generation to attain decent sized families.

I believe these numbers and i think its like that in the rest of the west, there's a good number of somalis that dont get married, and when they do it's later in life which naturally restricts the number of kids they'll have, the relatively high divorce rate, and many somalis dont get remarried especially if their first spouse is a non somali, so easy divorce but low remarriage rates which is opposite to somalia.

Add to that with high living costs and women being more educated, and you get a clearer picture as to why the fertility rate is so low.
I think we need to discourage somalis moving to the west, its often a significant brain drain for somalia, and often its just a dark pit unless they assimilate.
