Abdulahi Ahmed Cirro a prominent military professor and a general as well the founder of national academy for strategy is a man one can say is the president somalia never had.

A graduate of the elite Frunze military school, Egyptian military academy and the commander of the 60th division as well as deputy commander of the 21st division. Cirro commanded the Godey front in the 77-war and his forces caused the biggest casuality to the Ethiopians wiping out the entire 4th division.

A medal of valor winner after 77-war cirro fell out with Barre over suspicion of plotting a coup of which was later found not guilty when he was arrested. He declined to join rebel groups formed in Ethiopia and insteaded opted to stay neutral. If only Barre choose to stay closer to people like him the kacaan would have been in place today.

I presidential material we never had.

We have/had/will have GREAT people that can be president, Undoubtedly abdullahi Cirro was a great Military genius but what makes you believe he would have been a good president ? its hard to know if these things transfer well.

Siad Barre undoubtedly made a lot of mistakes and not using the smartest and brightest/ being obsessed with power has truly led to our downfall insallah we learn from this and move on.

Unlike the moryaan/warlord mentality the likes of Caydiid and Abdulahi Yusuf had, cirro was not just a military man but also and academician.

His approach on things and practicality was on a whole different level for the Somalis of those times. He was not power hungry hence why he rejected to join any rebel group after fell out with Barre. Without a doubt Cirro could have transitioned somalia into a democratic country had he been given the chance.

He completely left the messed somali issues and decided to live a peaceful life in Vienna.

Yeah we just need a patriotic business class that support people like him to the top. My current class in Cirro's ilk are Abdullahi Baadiyow or Abdi ismail Samatar ect ect we need to force people like this into roles of leadership.

Cirro was leading the first stage of the 1977 war but was placed under ABdullahi Yusuf's command in a later stage. People really sleep on AYs military capabilities and his contribution to the wars be it 1977 or 1964 against Kenya.

Cirro and Abdulahi Yusuf fought on two different fronts. Abdulahi Yusuf was the commander of dolow front (my dad who was a sergent was under his command) while Cirro lead the Godey front along with General galal for a period.

Abdulahi Yusuf without a doubt had a military capabilities but his legacy was washed away by his warlord behavior.

Abdullahi Yusuf wrote his memories about 1977 war.

Perhaps someone has read the book.

I would like to ask a question to Mad Mullah.

Why do you think Somalia could not win 1977 war?

Somali army had excellent russian tanks and at the begining of the war Barre captured 90 % of the ethiopian territory. Some people say Barre betrayed the army because he did not trust it.

Where did i say somalia could not win the war lol?

Somalia had an excellent army and the second strongest in Africa at that time but where Barre got wrong was he and few on his circles alone had the the intention to captures Addis and not the rest of the military command in all levels.

The reason why the Ethiopians came back stronger was the Sovjet and Cuban support ( Cubans brought their best artilary unit) and the sovjets provided the brains and weapons.

The Ethiopians had better manpower as well and all military strategist will tell you when your manpower is smaller you can only depend on speed and efficiency (which the Somalis had) . The longer it takes the more it drains you a good example is the nazis in Russia. Stalin was sending people on the frontline without being concerned about how many died and it paid off at the end.

Barre was reluctant as well to provide air cover for Abdulahi Yusuf yet he was the one who came closest to addis and could ease the pressure on the Godey front.

Half Successful mission?

Are you serious?

Somali army was expelled from Ogaden.

Cuban troops defeated Somali army at Jijiga and Harer in 1978

WSLF ceased to be a serious threat to Ethiopia.

This is not a victory.

I think if Somalia defeated Ethiopia and its allies, Ogaden should be in somali hands.

I respect Mad Mullah opinions but I just want to see sources that prove his standpoint about Ogaden War. Just that, I dont think is too much.

An article about Ogaden War:

"Second, by taking advantage of those defects and their own numerical superiority,
the Ethiopians were able to drain the Somalis and win. Still, it was external interventionists
that tipped the balance in their favor. Ethiopian patriotic ardor and
firmness held the Somalis to a virtual standstill,5 but Cuban and Soviet assistance
undeniably broke the impasse, ensuring Ethiopia's victory".

lol how would a colonel a junior rank lead a task like that could be he was a unit commander under Cirro. There were 4 major fronts and smaller ones.

1. Godey front under general Cirro
2.doloow/negelle front under Abdulahi yusuf
3. Jigjiga front under general Yusuf salhan.
4. Dirir dabo front under general galal

The minor fronts included warder, dhegax bur, qabri dahar among others.

All of them were under the direct command of Mohamed Ali samatar.

Btw I come from military family and well connected to the kacaan up until 90's.

Mad Mullah says Ogaden War was Half Successful mission?

Why do you have this opinion about Ogaden War?

I would like to know your standpoint, maybe it can change my opinion about Ogaden War.
