At 03000 on 13 July 1977, two SNA armored and three mechanized brigades under the command of Col Abdullah Askar launched their attack into south-eastern Ogaden, rolling in the direction of Godey ... Although reinforced by the 79th Militia Brigade, and ably supported by the EtAF, the attacks of which caused heavy loses to the Somali infantry, the Ethiopians could not hold their positions and the town fell to Col Askar's troops on the mourning of 25th July. The 79th Militia Brigade was virtually wiped out in the process of withdrawal, suffering loss of over 1,900 killed in action (KIA) and wounded in action (WIA) while the 5th Brigade came away in relativity good condition, but not without losing 79 KIA and 8 WIA ....

I just want to know the somali point of view about Ogaden War. I want to write a book about this war.
I have not lost any relatives because 1977 war. I am not Ethiopian too.
I can not understand why Mad Mullah says Somalia won Ogaden War. There is not any source on Internet which support his standpoint,even somali sources accept Siad Barre was defeated by Cuba and Soviet Union in 1978.

Why would you want to write a book about some African war that happened 50 years ago, what is there for you?
Because Ogaden War was very important for Somalia and Ethiopia history. A somali victory could change the Horn of Africa landscape.

Personally I think it was a disaster of epic proportions. Had we supported WSLF, continued building our arsenal and exploit ethnic tension within Ethiopia and Derg regime at large it would have been a wrap.
On top of that the Ogadens had no patience, they forced MSB to go to war against Ethiopia, all they had to do was lay low and wait till the tplf overthrew the derg, we did train the tplf after, we could've forced them to make the referendum to liberate Somali galbeed, but they seem how we got in self destruction mode and turned against us,
Ethiopia political situation was a disaster in 1977, many factions were fighting for power in Addis Ababa. There were many insurgencies along the country.
I think Barre invaded Ethiopia, because he did not trust WSLF military capacities and loyalty.By the way, few people know something about the fate of WSLF after 1978.
