The problem with africans

African ppl need to start grinding and get to a stage where success is normalized. I don’t want anyone to take this the wrong way but everyone there is any African person who is “successful” in an Cadaan sphere notice how they get worshipped “THE FIRST BLACK/AFRICAN/SOMALI XYZ”

Like am I the only one peeping the fact that this response comes from a scarcity mindset and it’s kind of sad, like you don’t see indhayars, Arabs, yahuuds or cadaans overdoing this kind of behaviour ie, being proud of the success of one individual because they are already secure in themselves and have plenty of success to go around because that’s what their cultures INHERENTLY REWARD

the main issue with Maadow and African people hyperfixating on the success of certain individuals, ie “black excellence” :snoop: is that on a subconscious level the successful individual is singled out from the rest of the group, thereby reinforcing the idea that the default state for a black African is a lack of success, and anyone who manage to do otherwise is “exceptional”

But in reality the default state for any individual of any race is a “lack of success” and any “success” (regardless of context, whether it be financial, academic, etc) is the result of a combination of an individuals efforts, ethic, and in a lot of cases connections (of which the source of “successful connections” almost always comes down to 1 mf creating an opportunity for themselves, but that’s a story for another day).

Whenever I see a black ceo, doctor, etc etc I don’t feel anything tf why should I feel proud I share a skin colour with a random person? It shouldn’t BE such a huge deal for a black person to be successful ask yourselves why you feel otherwise and why put all that energy making xyz individual a spectacle instead of putting that same energy into children who could very much be all that and more :kanyeshrug:

"African person who is “successful” in an Cadaan sphere notice how they get worshipped “THE FIRST BLACK/AFRICAN/SOMALI XYZ”"

Most somalis came to the states as refugees. A lot of us had uneducated parents since only a small minority of us were educated before the civil war. Most of our parents worked low wage jobs and the millennials struggled the most growing up here in the west. By default we won't have that many professionals across multiple fields.

This isn't really a big deal for Africans that came as economic migrants. Nigerians for example are the most successful black ethnic group here in america. The few Nigerian friends I had growing up are all educated and are working great jobs. Same with the Kenyans I met. I don't really know any young Kenyans that are bumming around. In fact a majority of the west Africans I've met around my age are educated.

"African ppl need to start grinding and get to a stage where success is normalized."

Success is already normalized within African economic migrant communities. Nigerians are so successful that they have a running gag about turning the national black student engineering association to a Nigerian association. Nigerians and other west Africans are overrepresented at black/African networking events nationwide.

The Africans that are struggling the most are the ones that came to the west as poor refugees.

This is something African Americans do Atlanta is nicknamed the city of “black excellence ”there still dealing with the legacy of Jim Crow and red lining the “make it out the hood ”mentality is still prevalent only reason why other Africans think like that is because of there consumption of American media

This isn't an African mindest. This is something black americans do which is hella valid. They were barred from pretty much everything not too long ago and were brought to America enslaved. So it's prideful for them to see how far they've come. It's not that deep
