I agree. I don't think they're native to Harar. They're originally Highlanders that migrated to that land....and they look very similar to their Jeberti and Tigre Semitic counterparts.
They're not habeshas but i think that they're related to the jeberti muslims from eritrea. In dress, language, customs they're very similar.

The xarla which was an advanced muslim cushitic people related to somalis are the ones who are native to the region, but they assimilated into somalis/afars after the oromo invasions.

Afars are Somalis closest cousin
I am gonna pretend you never said that:susp: and as far as I know clan and tribe are the same unless you are saying they aren't

So you don't think Somalis are related to the Afars and Oromos the most?

Somalis are one Tribe. Tribe is just another term for "Ethnic group". A clan is a group of people within a tribe that are united by a common descent/lineage.

They are more simliar to Argobba's than Jeberti's

Harla assimilated into Oromo as well. Harar was an Arab colony in Harla country at least before the 10th century. The Harla demanded the Arabs intermarry with them and adopt their language hence the Harari ethnic group. My dad's fam trace thier lineage to a Harla Emir while my moms side claim yemeni origin. Old Harari language was already heavily Semitic. Places like Zanzibar also had a bantu-arab kingdom.

The other Harari made some thread on them like a week ago
Why don't you think Hararis are Habesha ? I have some Harari friends and the person I'm dating is Harari and they all identify as Habesha.
Habesha isn't just you Tigrayans and Amharas. It's all Semitic tribes of Ethiopia and Eritrea, regardless of their religion.

Stop pretending you aren't Habesha yourself by saying "you Tigrayans and Amharas" :bell:
You aren't fooling anyone but yourself :ivers:

I've heard the theory that the Adere newcomers who arrived from Eritrea are originally from Hadhramaut in Yemen and mixed with the Xarla who eventually changed their language. Interesting.

The Habesha term can be used in too many ways in the diaspora. I (and probably @Lilafrombole ) will almost point out at someone that looks remotely like us and say Habesha and say hello sometimes when they pass.... back home it is not used as often as outside.

I didn't say whether Harari's are Habesha or not, it's self-identification at the end of the day and if @Young Popeye say's he isn't, then it's not up to anyone else:manny:, stating ethnicity is more common even.
