I think Somalis are more prone to emotive decision making in marriage due to family issues and trauma based upbringing. One of my relatives married an older ajanabi against the family’s advice and is now divorced. She could have easily married young Somali men or even successful ajanabi more suitable to her. The older guy was able to encourage her to rush into marriage as the girl has a bad relationship with father and issues with mother also. Sometimes, women see marriage as a solution to their problems and other times it is to get away from family issues (controlling and overbearing mother/father issues). It might even be a form of rebellion.
There is also a flaw in how older Somalis present marriage to younger people. Some older Somali divorcee women literally marry a man 2 weeks after meeting him and next thing you know the dude is her house with all her kids. The children haven’t had a chance to prep or get use to the guy, causing friction and sometimes abuse/predatory behaviour by the man whose past was hidden or known. There are even casss where mentally ill have been married off to women to “help them change”. Then you have uncles who go around marrying women after women like a circus and this reduces the value of marriage in the community. My friend found out his Dad was getting a third wife from Facebook
Then you have the pressure and insults to pellle who haven’t able to find spouses and this makes people prone to marrying the first, Tom Dick and Harry they meet.
