Even the ones I know that are pastoralists didn’t marry ciyaal they married their own age mates. We need to bring back shaming people and ousting them. Also investing in women/girls education because once a women has these they won’t be forced to marry these animals.

Someone very close to me recently shared that they’re returning to Somalia to get married. At first, I congratulated them without much thought until they revealed that their “fiancée” is gonna be 17 years old. I understand that this isn’t considered unusual in Somalia, but as someone raised in the West, I’m struggling to process this. The person getting married is 25. I’ve seen similar situations before. For example, in my family’s home town, I once heard about a 55-year-old man marrying a 19-year-old girl. I get that Somalia and the West have totally different ways of looking at things, but honestly, I’m still feeling a bit weirded out.

You should shamed him for that, maybe he would waited a couple of years before marrying her.

The truth is a women that are not youthful is at a disadvantage. Youth and Beauty go hand and hand. Having children passed 50 is plain dumb anyways. If your age mates cannot carry children due to age, you shouldn't be either. If you have a child at 55, by the time that kid has graduated college you might not even be physically capable of attending if you're even alive.

Especially if you're raised in the west. I know Somalis who have died at 60, you'll be leaving your children fatherless at 5-15, god forbid. Of course only Allah knows how long we will live but you should plan better with the information you know.

I already have a son now I'm 22 so he will have family that will help him if I die early on him.
