It's Africa policy not really something the president is going to talk about. I don't think Obama ever spoke about FGS when they were recognized for the first time in 20 years. I don't think he even mentioned it once.

They already have Djibouti and Somalia to counter any Russian influence. Ethiopia and Russia aren't that close either really. Eritrea is arguably closer to Putin than anyone in the region.

Not only that but the Chinese have apparently been pointing lasers at American planes in Camp Lemonier, Djibouti. If Trump left and went to Berbera to leave the Chinese to have Djibouti all on their own it would be seen as very very weak and running away from the Chinese. Trump would never allow that. Preliminary estimates are $50-$100 million to upgrade facilities at Berbera and build housing for troops if this went through. Trump would never be able to justify this in any way. DOA.

You struggle to understand why he might mention Mexico to the US public? Or Canada or Greenland? You can't think of any economic or security reasons he might mention them.
