we’re not the same

Years ago I came across a facebook page of an AS supporter. All of the photos he’d post were of children. Some wielding guns, some wearing fake suicidebomb vests, others carrying their banner. The other day I saw similar photos again. It’s crazy to think that this is even real. Or that this is apart of normal life in some parts of Somalia.

It made me wonder.. what does a future Somalia even look like when you have an entire generation who’ve lived under AS rule since they were children. They carry a different worldview, beliefsystem, valuesystem from their fellow somalis. Like what does the young men growing up in Borama, Garowe and Jamame have in common? How are they meant to share a country? Is the FGS even capable of deradicalizing entire cities?

Thats so jarring. I would like to think if we increased the living standards less people would join it. But their will always be that subsection of crazy fanatics. Idk why we had to be cursed with these crazy ass people.

That's the reality of having an absentee government that fails to recognise the needs of the people. To have no one to hold people to account and safeguard their population. That is the sad reality without taking into consideration the incompetence that exists among Somali politicians, it is disturbing how badly we are doing.

It’s so bizarre when you think of it. Like some people join not because of ideological conviction but for financial, survival or they have grievances towards the state. those are obvs alot easier to deal with and can be rehabilitated

but what about those children who grew up under their rule for a decade or two. Only taught their ideology, never left their village/city, most of their youth and early adulthood was spent in service of them, taught to see their own state, non AS somalis, the rest of the world as their enemies.

fills me with rage tbh. Alot of the other issues caused by lack of a viable state can be resolved much easier. But do you rehabilitate hundreds of thousands, possibly millions of people ? How are those people meant to live a normal life in a post-AS society

What really matters is having a functioning government that gives people confidence. That is the first step. The second step is to show that trust will not be betrayed by building up the country's healthcare, education, infrastructure, etc. It's a very simple solution but unfortunately we are stuck in a battle between nationalism and qabyaalad. Clans should not have any importance in a society. We have allowed it to grow so much that it is an everyday reality for many people in the homeland. Your clan does this, my clan does that. Your clan kills one of mine, either you pay blood money or we go to war, etc.

We are in an endless circle, I keep questioning people's common sense. Do they want to live in hell all their lives just so their qabil rules so you can brag?

Abayo this problem is top down issue. If the people in control of these region with AS wanted them out they could get rid of them. For instance we have more effort in qabil fights Somalia then fighter AS people. In addition look at where they are located what's important there ? And who are aiding these people? We are people at the end of the day we eat and where drink water. Now who is bring or giving or even letting these people in? These regional leaders want the destabilize of Somalia this is how they make there money. AS is a business and not a tero group in Somalia. It is ugly when you find out the truth

Some of those kids I can't lie to you will be a lost cause. Inshallah hopefully we will be able to minimize the violence they were taught so they do not harm anymore Somalis. Ideology wise it will be harder. Its just like how people know racism and discrimination is wrong in 2024 yet still continue to engage in it. But the most important thing is how the government is going to go about stopping these radical individuals who believe that by killing innocent people they will go to Jannah. Lowkey they should do it like the Western governments do it and just gather information then send them to jail.
