See there's a reason older Somali women don't wear the niqab and it's because of these new age doctrines that tell women they should stay invisible. Sweden hasn't banned it and they probably won't but they should. And Islam has nothing to do with the Somali dhaqn our culture is not synonymous with our religion. I'm not opposing the abaya nor the hijab, those attires are both very islamic and I understand and respect women that choose to wear them and practice their religion. I'm not under the impression that these women have been forced, some may have been others have probably been influenced by whabbai and salafi preachers. Niqab is not apart of Islam. Nope. The Prophet (SAW)'s wives did not wear the hijab prior to the revelation of the verses mandating hijab.

It was narrated from Safiyyah bint Shaybah that ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) used to say: When these words were revealed – “and to draw their veils all over Juyoobihinna (i.e. their bodies, faces, necks and bosoms)” – they took their izaars (a kind of garment) and tore them from the edges and covered their faces with them.

People have been wearing the niqab or something very similar to it way before Islam. I don't believe it has anything to do with religion it's more of a cultural attire that started in the middle east and for some strange reason found it's way to Islam thanks to radical men.
