Siad barre tried outlawing gun ownership and that didn't work out well. However, im advocating a system where all gun owners are registered and licensed. Plus, it would give civilians the opportunity to battle terrorism, crime e.g. alongside the police/army; instead of being sitting ducks. You can't have an uneducated population like Somalia and give them tons of guns.
So you want civilians to be sitting ducks and not be able to defend themsleves?"I fully agree with you sxb, nobody can seperate a farax from his gun."

We need total disarmament, except for the countryside where we will allow only hunting rifles to defend flocks from predators.
There'll never be total disarmament though. All the pirates, criminals and militias will still be able to buy their guns. With a country as corrupt as Somalia, I'm sure anyone with enough money can get any gun they want. The government will never enforce total disarmament. The law abiding citizens who just want to own guns are the most effected.
I've been wanting to go a gun range for a long time but my tin foil hat and paranoia won't let me. What gun do you own?Im a licensed gun owner, so I have strong opinions on this.
I think anyone that's of legal age and good mental health standing should have the right to defend themselves. The "bad guys" won't limit themselves when they get armed, so why should we be limited. Also, citizens being armed serves a nice check/balance on the monopoly of force all governments seek to obtain. This is really important in a country like Somalia were the government is always rife with corruption.
Guns are fun too! I love taking my anti-gun liberal friends to the gun range and shoot the shit with them, literally. It almost always changes their opinions on guns.
Somalis should have the right to bear arms, but with certain regulations and restrictions.
I disagree with you sxb. That will only bring tyranny from gov't. Somalis should have the right to bear arms and defend themselves and their property. Guns dont kill people, people kill people.I'm talking about a peaceful Somalia under the rule of law.
First thing would be to disarm clan militias and confiscate all weapons from the hands of private citizens. The state alone must have a monopoly on violence.

Exactly, criminals will always be armed. Therefore, law-abiding citizens should bear arms not to just protect themselves, but to also protect the wider public/society.There'll never be total disarmament though. Lol. Peaceful Somalia? I thought this was supposed to be a realistic debate. Even if Somalia was to become peaceful, like all the other developed nations, anyone would still be able to get a gun if they knew the right people and had enough money. Trust me I don't think disarmament is a bad idea, I just don't think it's realistic, you feel me?
I meant that assuming everyone will reasonable. The overwhelming majority of gun owners are for a fact responsible owners. The only reason many laws are in place is specifically because of the worst in society. I don't think there's anything wrong with gun ranges (there's quite a few in the UK). But I'd vote against private gun ownership in the UK.@Kanye
Bruh did you just compare going to the gun range and shooting guns to trying drugs? Pretty much sums up my experience with anti-gun people.
I own a p320. Just a small pistol I got on boxing day, it's my first gun.

Total disarmament is nearly impossible in Somalia. Instead the gov't should do criminal and mental health checks on all gun owners. Plus, an armed and trained society would deter invasion from foreign enemies. There should always be a healthy fear of the government. We cannot afford to repeat the mistakes of the civil war with military weapons in the hands of civilians especially in a fragmented clan society.
Im not entirely sure but as you'd expect, the laws aren't enforced. However, i think you still need a license to own a gun and automatic rifles aren't permitted. What are the gun laws in somalia like right now

Say that out loud to your fellow Americans and you will be chased out of fown and called a filthy commie
You're going to be met with a lot of resistance. Gun ownership=protection in the Somali psyche. Instead of trigerring more bloodshed, it would be wise to keep gun ownership legal but with adequate regulation.Impossible?
By that point the masses will simply turn in their weaponry willingly.
