Doctor, civil/mechanical/petroleum engineer, political science+sharia degree combo, agriculturalists, geologist, marine biologist, teacher/education specialist

Medical professionals like doctors, midwifes, nurses, therapists and psychiatrists.

Outside of medical would be teachers, engineers, lawyers, judges and scientists.

Artists, poets and writers are also important. Art is good for culture.

Data base, programming. We have to many lose strings of people roaming around. If id move into a city if want to take accounts of all the people. I would first start from school system and then to immigrants camps afterwards the xabis, and lastly I would like got my hands on driving record at office that hands out driver license. After this I could like to conduct a census. Afterwards id compile them if any person in xabis is Ethiopian id deport them to Kenya after there xabis term is end. I would also like to discuss where are the main entrance point and least and set up border patrol. I think data is the thing that holding back Somalia. For instance if you had the banking data of who is paying who. you can root out corporation. Even for medical purposes you can use it on medical out break of track down it to the source by cataloging people and location and who was in or out this region.

Somalia needs universities that pump out businessman and smart politicians who will develop the country and foster international trade

Trade jobs and manual laborers are badly needed we need Mexican type work ethic if we’re gonna build the country bottom up

I’ll be completely honest and sound pessimistic, I got advice long time ago but I was too idealistic. Don’t pursue a degree with change of Somalia in mind, thats too big of a picture and actually also leads you to believe your degree/work can make a difference when in reality it is a drop in the ocean (if it isnt a network). The best way to “give back” is to have as much financial power to invest and/or start a business.

I was very optimistic, got a Masters in Political economy of development, learnt theories & networked, only to realise that this edifice we call a fragile government & NGO industrial complex work in tandem to enrich a few minority and aren’t in the business of change but in the business of profiting from misery aka merchants of misery.

Focus on yourself, your Family and enriching yourself through your Deen. Achieving that is a success beyond measure for Dunya and Akhira.

Way to go bro, avoid obviously any financial institution that deals with Riba, but beyond that your capability to work & feed your family is far more impactful than the idealised and romantic dream of “contributing to development”. Somalia hasn’t had a Syria moment of breaking free from tyranny, if it was 21st January 1991 then we clearly missed that window. 34 years of misery and statelessness only for the political elites pockets to be full - hence every nook and cranny aspires to be a politician.

We should honestly start chastising, demonising and being censorious to politicians to the point it is seen as a rotten, poison chalice rather than looking up & respecting these leeches known as xidlibaan. I refer to Somali politicians as Reer Über given thats mostly all (coincidentally) their former employer in the West (where there is some level of meritocracy, and so indicative of one’s level).

Anything STEM related is what Somalia needs and is beneficial to you whether you return home or stay in west. Don’t bother with Mickey Mouse degrees.

Liberal arts degree is the most useless class I had to go to the masjid after the class ended because I needed to rinse out the BS I heard that day
