My mom told me that women used to prick their gums to make them black since it's considered beautiful. Yuck.

black gums and two-toned lips are a beauty standard for Somali women. They mock you back home if you have pink lips they call you biijo.

I'm not making any accusations but I've only seen dark skinned Somalis with dark gums. So if a girl is light skinned with dark gums, she probably bleached.
