My mom told me that women used to prick their gums to make them black since it's considered beautiful. Yuck.

black gums and two-toned lips are a beauty standard for Somali women. They mock you back home if you have pink lips they call you biijo.

Nah pink gums look normal on brown or lighter Somalis

black looks okay on darker Somalis
