If you check google maps you will see many roads enter the town. It is a stopping place for cars heading to the main road
in Oog and those heading towards Sanaag. It is located in a important location that is why it is known.

We assassinated a dhabacyo president and brought Siad Barre into power. :fittytousand:

"On October 15, 1969, while paying a visit to the city, Somalia's then President Abdirashid Ali Shermake was shot dead by one of his own bodyguards. His assassination was quickly followed by a military coup d'état on October 21, 1969 (the day after his funeral), in which the Somali Army seized power without encountering armed opposition — essentially a bloodless takeover. The putsch was spearheaded by Major General Mohamed Siad Barre, who at the time commanded the army."

The populations were all incorrect for a lot of Somali cities and towns on wikipedia though from what i've seen. I'd be interested to see a proper ranking of all cities today.

There are NGOs out there with detailed calculations. The UN related ones especially.
