I’m pretty sure laxoox is arabic. Canjeero sounds similar to injera which is Semitic. So where did canjeelo come from? Is it a case of Chinese whispers gone wrong?

Trade mostly. Berbera and Aden are only 200 miles apart and merchants used to spend lots of time on either side of the coast.
