Why do certain Somali's accept the black/madow Identity fully without question?

I’m in Canada and it’s very simple here. Black African or Black Caribbean= Black. Ofc everyone has their own cultural identity that they identify with first, but we’re all considered black.

I was never really othered or told that I’m “not really black” most here accept Somalis and Habeshas as black without question lol. Must be a UK/Europe problem

We are distinct looking but we are still accepted as black. Even half black women here call themselves black and nobody has an issue lol

I've seen a lot of Somali people on social media saying it proudly that they are black. When they are pressed about what is black they are referring to ? they state the whole AA identity. The crazy aspect of all of this is these Somali's with this lost identity are in the largest Somali community in the States. Why have these Somali's in the largest Somali community lost their identity?

My answer depends on what is most convenient in that moment.

Some won't claim them. A decent amount will especially if they were raised around somalis. young Somali kids aren't rude and will usually be down to accept a half somali as long as they f*ck with somalis.

The most cultured half Somali I know pretty much grew up in the same hood as all the other Somali kids. Dude blended in with everyone else and even though he looked different than us he rarely ever got pressed for his looks. Buddy only got shit for being half Somali whenever he hopped online and spoke about being half Somali.

Even back home they made citizenship laws that won't even allow them to get citizenship. Govt pretty much told everyone these dudes don't matter that much and used the "children of terrorists" excuse.

Exactly it’s mainly online. Somalis are very accepting in real life.

The citizenship laws will change when Somalia is stable and safer. Right now, who even wants a Somali citizenship anyways. If full Somalis like me don’t care for one right now, why would a half Somali kid care?
