that is a specific sufi tariqa known as the timo weyn (literally big hair). I think the reason is cuz it's sunna or something (the prophet had long hair and parted them like that). Other sufis orders don't do this i think. And is it unique to Somali Sufis only? View attachment 296026View attachment 296027
Then how come other Sufi groups around the world don't do itBecause they say that the Prophet's hair was like this
But it looks weird with the glaring forehead.Well they all have a head full of hair even the old ones so I guess you faraxs better follow suit. Let me see that straight part.

The prophet would part his hair & tucked the sides behind his ears to clear his vision I believe and sometimes braided it.They are misguided
It maybe due to following a different TariqaNone of my sufi family members do that, must be a regional thing
Yes they are called timoweyn, they are a specific sufi branchIt maybe due to following a different Tariqa
Doesn't that thing around their neck have something to do with Sufism aswellThis is how this hair style is supposed to look like.

How many branches are there? And is this branch popular in JL?Yes they are called timoweyn, they are a specific sufi branch
Yes. In arabic it's called tamima and in somali it's called hirsi. It's supposed to protect you from all kinds of evil and shaytan. In islam it's haram and there is hadith/hadiths against it. Usually sufis in this case somali sufis write down ayat from the quran al-karim in small sheets of paper and wrap around it a small leather case then use it as a neckless or arm band.Doesn't that thing around their neck have something to do with Sufism aswell
