Pirates are criminals and they along with warlords and terorrists gave us a bad image as an anarchic unstable uncivilized war torn group of savages without a recoqnised goverment insitution sorry but may those pirates never set foot in somalia ever again
What we need is a navy and coastguards of our own, established by a goverment insitution and those who commit crimes should be punished according to our laws that we established recoqnised by the international community

Pirates started with good intentions before turning into a criminal organization. Would they even be a match for foreigners with sophisticated weapons, equipment? The government should be responsible for this but I guess they have other things to worry about smh

The label of "criminal" has less meaning in poverty-stricken areas, especially when people feel they're getting taken advantage of. When there was no real government solving these issues, the pirates might as well be called coastguards, relative to the conditions of the whole damn country. Lol

No they are are not. Somali pirates unknowingly made insurance companies wealthier and provided no benefit to the average Somali. They got greedy going after commercial vessels sailing outside Somalia's EEZ.
It started as a legitimate grief against illegal fish trawlers but turned into calculated criminal scheme to hijack unsuspecting container ships sailing outside the Somali sea and giving us a bad rep. Somalia has become synonymous with pirates in popular culture.

Even if they are not "good", the situation is still not as one sided as Westerners make it out to be.
if we launch a massive PR campaign after we deal with shabab and manage to get some positive hollywood shine people will forget about the piracy
Pirating on the Somali coast is a history now specially when no weapons on ships travelling through international waters is lifted and some are allowed to have armed men on board.
