I don’t think it’s that. It’s probably a way for the kids to stay tethered to the Somali identity now matter how far removed they are from the daqan. Maybe, idk.

Yes, Roble because it’s similar to my dad’s name ( Robert), the Spanish name Ruel, I love rainy days and just love the way it sounds. Or it could at least be a middle name, which would work since it’s based of my dad’s name. Fun fact: Even though, my grandpa became westernized, he still keep the Somali tradition of having your father’s first name as your middle name. Both my dad and uncle have my grandpa’s first name as their middle name

If I were to give my kids Arab names, they’d probably the names of prophets or other Quranic names. Or else I’ll just give them Somali names.

nah I think it’s best that you should have a mix. Name your kids quranic names or whatever but at least have some children with somali names. If everyone stops naming their kids somali names I’m afraid a part of the culture will die and will continue like that. Don’t take what people on the internet say so seriously, they can’t decide what you name your children so you don’t have to care about what they think. Somali names actually have meanings and sound better imo.
