London isn't what it used to be. It's height was pre-2010. No one wants to live in London anymore. Very sad to see the decline of what was once the world's greatest city. Places like South Carolina are a million times better.

i totally agree. Canada got shit weather but you can’t argue the spaciousness of the homes. Australia must be paradise. Bug homes nice weather all around i’m jealous

He probably made a good investment tbf. Home prices will generally continue to increase over time and that land alone will be more valuable than what he paid for it in a few years. He’ll probably be able to sell to some developer who’ll tear it down to build a condo.

The community need to be smart about how to solve this. Frame it as a Muslim issue. I think I talked about Bengalis before, 40% of them live in social housing, yet their school results are on par with East Asians.

Somalis cannot progress outside of this housing if we aren’t given an opportunity to buy these homes interest-free.

I chuckled at this sxb. You think anyone is going to give you a loan for 100s of thousands of pounds without interest, and just to the Muslim community? Why would they do that? Generally investors want interest as a form of compensation for risk. Especially when they are giving money to people who already live in social housing.

If you are going to buy a home, any home, the sooner you do it the better. Home prices will continue to increase while you wait for them to decrease and you will be left with no opportunity to ever buy because it’s too expensive. Remember, supply will always be limited because land is a scarce resource that can’t be produced.

Very true during the 2020 shukri abdi campaign many many maadows defended and supported shukri on socials. They went all out in supporting us now more than cadaans and arabs. IMO you’re right but it’s a religious issue at the end of the day the government has to respect this. You can’t be blasting certain ethnic groups in the country for not buying homes but not accommodating their needs. If that’s the case then just leave them alone.

I don’t think it has to be a straight up loan. But at least acknowledge the issue and find ways to work together with Muslims to solve this. But this is something the Muslim community should be bringing up though not the other way around, it’s not a good look

The problem with that is other Muslims have clearly taken loans that incorporate riba so they will probably say Somalis are extremists. I do agree the community needs to come together to solve this. How are they doing in school over there?

Pretty good tbh, our exam results have gone up by like 20 percentage points over the past 20 years. I reckon we do slightly better than natives now.

The last data point was in 2013.
Our GCSE exam results were still far below the national average (which is 61%) for Somali boys.
Somali girls were just below the national average at 60%

I've heard anecdotal evidence that somali boys are amongst one of the worst performing groups by some teachers in meetings but these are far and few.

housing is pretty shit here if you live in sydney or Melbourne but luckily most somalis own homes. Currently there's a housing and migration crisis going on so I wouldn't recommend to come here. America has far more opportunities than australia.

All Muslims buy homes except maryooley but atleast the ones in the states own their own homes .
