I remember when there was an explosion outside of the embassy when there was a meeting with some East African country ( don’t remember ) .

It would be great if the current airport became a military airport for the Somali Air Force and a future Somali Police Air Unit, named Asli Hassan Abade Airport, while the new one is named Aden Adde International. This would allow the government to claim and designate all surrounding areas as critical to national security and compensate its landowners with new land, preferably further down the coast or inland.

At-least a forward thinking government would be doing this, and most likely this is what would have been a reality today if 91’ didn’t happen. Somalia sits on the crossroads of three continents, it could 10X the amount of passengers annually by establishing a state of the art network of airports and push Somali Airlines as a major regional carrier.

Here is to hoping they invest in relocating the port as well (a far more pressing concern in my opinion). It’s right in the middle of the city which limits potential for expansion and the traffic in and around the port is absolutely disgusting. If the airport is relocated to the north of the city, the port should be relocated somewhere to the south between Xamar and Jazeera.
