Listen guys without any sensitivity or pride, Somalia is very weak country right now (drought, famine, occupation from Kenya and Ethiopia, youth's tarhib, lack of jobs) we need to build our infrastructure from roads to hospitals, schools, jobs and strong army, but the issue is lack of money and allies. Right now the Arab gulf countries want to invest in Somalia and be our allies beside turkey. The price will be opening military bases and siding beside us in international community. Plus, we never had any aggressive relations with them.
There will be new base Qatari base in PL. the Arab will help us build our infrastructure and put on hold the annexation dreams of Ethiopia and Kenya. Diaspora Somalis don't ruin it by your fake pride and anti Arab propaganda. You all are living in comfort here in west, let the people in back home enjoy peace and prosperity like you. Keep your criticisms to yourself and try to support the government.

Puntland President Announces Start of Talks with Qatar for Military Base in Bosaso
Admin February 17, 2017 No Comments 182 Views

The President of Puntland Abdiweli Mohamed Ali has announced the start of talks with the government of Qatar for a military base after the parliament of Somaliland agreed to a UAE military base in Berbera.

The President of Puntland views the UAE military base as a worrying development in a long-standing border dispute with Somaliland.

President Abdiweli warned Somaliland that its militarization of the region “would surely lead to conflict”.

“The government of Somaliland needs to know that Puntland will protect its interests at all times. We are currently in the beginning stages of talks with Qatar” he said.

GobannimoNews: We reached out to Somalia’s Foreign Minister for this story. He declined to comment.

Beside all those foreign militaries coming to Somalia will all come from conservative muslim countries so we can realistically hope

no to this base and no to all bases. arent qatar and uae allies or did they pick between egypt turkey and saudi. we cant have stupid regions leasing decades long bases to foreign countries without permission from the federal parliment.

I always thought Gaas was a softie, but if this is true, i commend him, well done for standing up for Puntland's interests. Very interesting developments

states in the north can maintain their autonomy, federal government needs to first focus on their own issues before interfering with the north

Misplaced priorities Ethiopia that is cutting the waters of our rivers in famine time and occupying our country, while Kenya is annexing our off shore oil fields. We need allies, UAE paid for the legal fees of our court against Kenya. Second, we had in the past military base (berbera for USA and Soviet Union) and they built our army in 70s. Third, look at Djibouti and how they are flourishing their economic. Soon Somalia will be same.

I kinda expected Somalia will go down this route & become a for other countries. Opening foreign military bases does not equal economic development.

Puntland, unlike Somaliland, claims to be a part of Somalia. That means they answer to the central government before making such deals.

canuck you know damn well we are not djibouti. I welcome alliance with UAE but who overlooked these contracts and what about the somali peoples voice which is supposed to be through the two houses.

these types of issues are federal issues. what will you say if south west agrees to an ethiopian base or jubaland to a kenyan base?

People are dying out of famine, and tarhib and foreign armies are occupying our country and killing our people. These Arab countries are welling to help us and they need our ports to fight Iran and houthis war. We are poor and weak and on average of annexation. We didn't have any choices here.

I agree that these are federal issues but you need to think of the consequences of not taking action, SL government will strengthen their foothold in disputed areas in the north without strong resistance.

No UAE is against separation of SL from Somalia and berbera base will run by Egyptian soldiers who are against separation and Ethiopia 'S influence in SL. Keep calm all good and goes in our benefits

Why should we be dragged into a war with Iran that is being instigated by the arabs? and Why are you so happy with Somalia being subservient to gulf arabs?
:kodaksmiley:

This war has nothing to with us, therefore we should remain neutral. Plus, I have way more respect for the hard working Iranians than the lazy arab scum.

Where've you been in the last 2 years, The Somali federal government already cut off all ties to Iran which means any notion of neutrality is obsolete

There is a difference between not being neutral and parting in acts of war. The latter puts Somali regions in danger.

But I do understand Puntland rational and partially support it if they can get Federal government to write it and better reclaim the disputed areas which are unionist.
