Af-Maay was labelled as a dialect for political purposes when it should be considered a language.

Labadaba af Somali waaye and no one can deny that or choose which one is the real af Somali. You're not from anywhere near where af Maay is spoken so keep your opinions as just that.

Sorry but I'm not here to be politically correct, when only a few words is mutually intelligible in a given conversation then you can't be be speaking the same language.

The two dialects can differ in phonology, grammar and vocabulary. Af Maay is not it's own language. You should look into different dialects of Italian and you'll understand it better.

You're not from the South so no one cares what you think. No one said you have to understand it. Stay in your one clan one dialect regions.

Btw I'm glad I'm not from the cursed south.:rejoice:

It's funny you bring up that because Italy has different "dialects" but they are all really languages labelled "dialects" for political reasons. Neapolitan, Sicilian, Venetian etc. all branches that descended from Latin separately so they are a language in their own right but they are all put under Standard Italian which is based on the Tuscan dialect. You have to understand this is done for the purpose of keeping national unity and preventing exclusion of people who might not speak the standard tongue.

One dialect becomes the norm either because the majority speak it or for political reasons, but it doesn't stop it from being native to one region or people. Maay speakers are Somali so their language is just as Somali as the others. No one is forcing nationhood on each other, we're all Somali.

Af maay is a diffrent language not far from somali but a diffrent language nevertheless with its own grammar structure and vocabulary.
The right thing to do is acknowledge it and study it but to deny its existence and label it as lahjad now that's racist

No one is denying that they're different but how dare any of you claim that it's not af Somali like you're the only Somalis.

What's wrong with one ethnicity sharing different languages?
Ethnicity is not only determined by language there are more important things such as culture common ancestory etc. look at xabasha one ethnic group with more than 5 languages.

I'm talking about who keeps the word af Somali? That's my issue here and to be fair and frank our two afaf have vast similarities in grammar and vocabulary so it's very difficult to label it a completely different language unless we make Somali a language group instead of a language which I think is the best solution.
