That's my issue here and to be fair and frank our two afaf have vast similarities in grammar and vocabulary so it's very difficult to label it a completely different language unless we make Somali a language group instead of a language which I think is the best solution.

I still consider it a dialect because it's not like Oromo which is a different language which neither of us could understand. When I hear af Maay I get the structure of the sentence and many of the words, I can't do this with Oromo or Afar. For me it's the same language but a lot of people from central and northern Somalia can't understand it at all.

Af doesn't translate into language it, lahjad is a borrowed term, people say 'af Waqooyi' etc

Af doesn't necessarily translate to language, back in the days we had Af Gadabuursi Af Isaaq Af Issa Af Abgaal Af Ogaden etc. All part of the Somali language. Af meaning language or dialect, but now we replaced Af with Lahja of the Arabic to distinguish dialect.

Not true in the slightest. Waqooyi and Xamar are considered the same dialect. Af Maay was never considered an accent and it's always beenseen as distinct from af maxaa tirri. Fail and a half.
