I posted it here a little while back. It's beautiful and the girl speaking it encourages all Somalis to learn all the different dialects. Af maxaa tirri speakers very rarely speak or understand a different dialect but everyone else can switch between two or even three without a problem.

Raxanweyn are die hard nationalists. Actually they view themselves originators of the Somali tongue and having the purest dialect. They love being Somali and they love the Somali language.

I think this diversity , dialects and different Somali cultures are good and add more variety to a nation. Otherwise it would be boring and dull.

Af-Maay was labelled as a dialect for political purposes when it should be considered a language.

I agree it should be a different language and politically it was considered so in the early 2000s when the TFG constitution was being made. I don't know why they didn't include it in the final draft. They did manage to include Arabic.

I think that's because af maxatiri rarely live in Merca and Baidabo and simillar places, the ones that do learn their dialects obviously and they find no problem learning and getting used to it. a year or two in Merca and Baidabo and you'll develop their dialect as expected.

Af Barawe is another but it is a whole different language group. They speak a dialect of Swahili.

Reer Barawe are not ethnically Somali, it's like if Madow still spoke their old language from central Africa. Its not a Somali dialect. Reer Marka are pure Somali and same with Raxanweyn. Their dialects are distinct from other languages but very close to af maxaa tirri.

They call af maxaa tirri af Somali and Maay a different language. The mistake they make is considering their dialect the standard and others as a deviation. They need to understand that af Maay is not a dialect of their dialect but a dialect of Somali.

Well at least we understand one another. By standard Somali grasp it as we all can communicate no matter the sound accent. Contrast to Af maay maay which completely sounds alien with exception of few words here and there.
