Ethiopia's dams are intended to stop the Shabelle and Jubba river, which will lay waste to farming communities living alongside these rivers. Unless alternative water sources are found, such as desalinated water, I think South Somalia's 'breadbasket' days are numbered.
Egypt can't do anything about Ethiopia's dams, let alone a weak client state like Somalia.
Ethiopia build few dams in Godey on DDS that's why the Shabelle river is running dry.Nonsense, Somalia's population is small. Nobody even uses the rivers Ethiopia won't build a dam because it doesn't need too. Even if they did it wouldn't affect us because 95% of the river is unused and goes straight into the sea. Drought is the enemy because when it does not rain in Ethiopia, the river becomes smaller.
Do you know that Ethiopia build at least 2 dams on one single river?Nonsense, Somalia's population is small. Nobody even uses the rivers Ethiopia won't build a dam because it doesn't need too. and another on the other river?
These dams are already full, so it won't make a difference. Besides we don't use the river. it all goes to the sea.
Godey itself is Somali land. You can't compare us to Egypt which mainly relies in Ethiopia's blue nile, which then goes through Sudan. Our rives are in DDS and Oromia. And the sources for the Shebelle and Jubba are multiple. When it rains good in Oromia, our rivers flood and when it it drought, our rivers are dry. And we don't even use these rivers at all. The same way we don't use our ocean resources. We too can build dams and power plants in Somalia along these rivers to give cheap electricity to towns such as Beledweyn.
Dam building - large dams can be built across a river to produce electricity and store water in a reservoir. This can reduce river water flowing downstream and cause drought below the dam.
How will you build a dam, with what water? You don't own the source of the river, you live downstream from it.
Ethiopia has dammed the sources of the river hence why the rivers in South Somalia are drying up and turning into seasonal rivers.
The same way Syria built a dam from the Euphrates River which was already heavily dam built by Turkey.
One question that keeps coming up is: Will Ethiopia be willing to release enough water from the reservoir to help mitigate a drought downstream?
We will probibally have to migrate to Northern Madagascar, it has plenty of rain and is nit land locked, very close to somalia coast. We need to start farming there and import our food from there.
Ogaden in Godey are settling down and farming on the shabelle river, there are already quite a few dams built on the shabelle river for both agricultural and energy purposes. On the other hand, the region before the Jubba river is mountainous and cannot be used for farming until the Somali border.Nonsense, Somalia's population is small. Nobody even uses the rivers Ethiopia won't build a dam because it doesn't need too. Even if they did it wouldn't affect us because 95% of the river is unused and goes straight into the sea. But Madagascar is super close to Kismaayo coast, we need to establish somali diaspara there, it has large rain forest and coast line.Somalis will turn Madagascar into a wasteland with overgrazing and lack of respect for the land they live on. No, we need to stay in Somalia and think about our decisions.
Ethiopia is planning a soft version of Colonialism, which is to make Somalia dependent on it totally for food and energy. To 'soften' the blow, the initial breadbasket will be Godey but I bet soon after, they will find a way to ensure it will become more and more inland.
They are taking a leaf out of the Western Colonisers book, there is no need for sustained brute invasion, if you can cripple a country economically and make it wholly dependent on you. Unfortunately, for us, Somali politicians are only interested in their own jobs and they manipulate 4.5 clan sentiments to get it.
