Just because something is a loan word does not really play apart in the origin of the garment. Years after year the Somali language is getting increasingly arabized. Where we once used a Somali word for an item of food or clothing the Arabic version is replaced.

Macawiis, is the Arabic version but it Was replaced from xoos guunti.

Anjera (an African word clearly this dish was our version of the Ethiopian one) is replaced with the Yemeni laxoox.

Bun, a word only used occasionally now for the beans in Somali but now replaced with the Yemeni qawah. Bear in mind all Ethiopians use bun/bunna and that’s where coffee originated and that’s how we previously called coffee

There are literally hundreds of words we replaced from Cushitic origins to Yemeni Arabic even though Somalis interacted/discovered this items beforeYemenis.
Yemen's cultural stranglehold over the HOA spans over a millennia. Before the Yemeni Arabic influence it was the Yemeni Sabaeans who were doing the influencing in East Africa.

Both Horner Christians [especially Habeshas] and Muslims have absorbed a lot of influence from Yemen ranging from language to clothes, food e.g.

although I agree macawiis is South Asian in origin. it was only worn by coastal communities and in the years their has been a clothing shift and macawiis has become more common

Im not talking about the pattern bud. That pattern is originally from Southeast Asia. But the ‘skirt’ is called macawiis and Somali men have been wearing that since forever, including a belt, top and shawl combo.

How is that relevant to what I wrote? Are you saying xoos guunti and anjera are sabean words. Do you have any proof of this stronghold?

how much influence have Yemeni Sabaeans had on somalis?
Not much, the Sabaeans that migrated to the HOA were searching for fertile land for farming and generally avoided Somali lands because they're arid/dry. Hence why Sabaeans had stronger contact with Ethiopian highlanders that eventually language-shifted & adopted the Semitic language brought by the Sabaeans.

Yemeni & Omani influence on Somalis largely began after the rise of Islam.

That is in itself cap. Somali history shows that this is not the case in the slightest.

Somali has a smaller number of Arabic loan words than English whilst being next to Yemen.

Macawiis in itself is most likely not Somali. It is very likely an Indian innovation.

The proper Somali word is canjeelo, canjeero is a Somalised Amhara word.

I'll give you bun. Fair point.

Laakin the idea Somali is becoming Arabised year on year is cap.

The issue arises from the fact that certain gobols would use an Arabic word for something they did not have a word for. When maxaa tiri got standardised, there was an overlap of loan words with Cushitic words.

Many of those were eliminated laakin some are still used. For example, qaado is the standardised word for spoon but some communities used to say malaqacad. Most ppl say qaado today but malaqacad is still used by some.

Yes colours didn’t exist for Somalis ever. We only wore white clothing. That’s why shashes have beautiful distinct colours and designs…..
Bruh that’s not wha i mean, the macawis color is from elsewhere. I don’t mean we didn’t have it
