Shabaab is just a mafia group. HSM knows it’s time to submit to the IC how the country should go forward with the election process. Remember the IC wants “inclusiveness” (all regions have to be involved and agree including PL/JL).
I believe the deadline for this is in a couple of months. HSM made agreements with shabaab to take over the south so he could use it as a pretext to extend this deadline simply by virtue of fighting shabaab.

I am not sure bro. Somali clans and politics is too fluid to analyse. Hamar is also not the same as administering the countryside and smaller cities. Life has changed in Muqdisho in the last years. Just look at how most young people dress, and I don’t even mean it from a western or religious perspective, I mean people are more tied to what is going on globally and social media. Muqdisho feels a lot more like a modern city with more activities to partake in. (again, I don’t mean from a religious perspective). shabab comes in and starts banning music, stopping football etc, regulating trouser length, I think there will be a reaction. That is, if they reach Muqdisho. I think they maybe testing their capabilities and using psychological warfare with these sudden attacks.
On the other hand, one can’t deny they have sympathisers across Somalia and their model seems satisfying to some.
Won't lie, @Burqad is not entirely incorrect that I'm a bit out of my element with them. I'm more familiar with the politics up north like PL. But this was indeed my general impression of them. I've been told frequently by relations with business holdings in Koonfur that they essentially operate like a mafia where they'll visit business owners and basically work out a "You pay us canshuur and we don't bomb you" agreement with them. Typical mafia type extortion. Was also told they sell drugs? Legit found all this wild when one considers the supposed religiosity they claim.
South Somalia only cant handle it, North Somalia ( Puntland - SSC and SL ) Terrorist has no place in our lands.
Idk about that but Im aware that they might try to activate their sleeper cells in the city and carry out attacks, to take xamar they’d need thousands of fighters mustering there, and that doesn’t seem likely due to the other fronts.
The only thing I'll give to Shabab is that their lands seem to not have any qabil conflicts happening. Meanwhile qabil wars are happening sporadically across central and northern Somalia.
There is definitely an offensive going on by AS and certain clans are defecting to them on mass.
