Arab Professor says Somalis are Arabs from Yemen

Exactly bro the whole entire “we wuz arabs” theory is complete BS
They don't mean anything insidious by it. It's just what a lot of Arabs believe because they're taught in schools that we are an "Arab country" due to the Arab League membership and then they look at our looks and can tell we are not "pure" SSAs and look "mixed" so they just do a quick, thoughtless calculation in their heads and assume Yemenis came down and colonized the Somali coast, mixed with native Africans and voila... Somalis.
I can see where they're coming from and most won't get uppity at all and will be simply intrigued and confused when you explain Somali is a "related" (Afroasiatic) but totally separate language and that we were never Arabized like Sudanis and are our own people.
Other things that tend to confuse them are that most Khaleej dwelling Somalis speak Arabic fluently and even when they hear Af-Soomaali it sounds "Arabic-ish" to them due to the shared Afroasiatic phonology with sounds like 3ayn, 7a and Kha as well as the absolute wealth of Arabic loanwords. I've met more than a few who've heard Af-Soomaali and hilariously assumed it was just some strange Arabic dialect like Dirija.
But, again, nothing insidious. I get where they're coming from. If you care to correct them, go ahead. I used to a lot when I was younger but now I'm too old to care and don't honestly mind if they see me as "one of their own". What's the harm in that? I feel the same way when Madows of various sorts feel brotherly toward me. I know who I am and my origins and that's enough for me.

You know, in a funny way the "Yemeni admixed" assumption isn't 100% false:
Somalis do actually seem to descend from Yemenis through Highland Ethiopian admixture but it's obviously Iron-Age admixture. Then there's the fact that the absolutely prolific Camel clearly seems to have come Yemen given archaeological and linguistic evidence, as did our second most common Y-DNA lineage (T-L208), our religion (same school as in Yemen), iron based metallurgy, asiatic admixture in our non-camel livestock, our adoption of the Arabic script and possibly Musnad based scripts before that... the list goes on.
The imagery of Yemenis coming down to the Somali coast or the whole Horn and affecting it isn't an incorrect one; the extent to which—ancestrally—is simply exaggerated and most of our MENA roots predate that and come from what is now Sudan and Southern Egypt.
Yemen is in many ways the ancient Greece to the Horn's Rome. I think that analogy actually quite fits as the Horn in many ways, and at certain points, did eventually surpass its "teacher" from the Habeshas once ruling chunks of southern Yemen during antiquity to Somalia becoming its bread basket, and becoming so economically indispensable to cities like Aden during the Early Modern era that the British feared the city would be donezo if the Somali population left as they were threatening to do at one point.

Humans all descend from Adam so yes we are family to each after all. We need to respect the noble arabs distinct and unique role in the human tree. Arabs are closest in kin to jews. Both cousins to one another and semitics. Somalis are closest in kin to semitics as Somalis claim descend from arabs. The end of the day we are somalis. Both african and asian (middle eastern). Our cousins are ethiopians and eritreans. Cushites and Semites are cousins to one another.
Why is it so hard to understand that when others claim you as part of them, they are attempting to erase what Allah has uniquely bestowed upon every ethnicity, its distinct history, culture, lineage, and language?
I see this as deep hatred. Why would someone waste their time cooking up fairytales about your history and making it seem like you are part of them, when you have been your own distinct group since the inception? Hatred is what drives these people; it must be part of the Dhegocas psyche.

This conversation is getting tiresome. Warya what are you barking about? We literally blessed those yemenis with aqueduct technology when we took over aden and when we left they were too low IQ and couldnt even maintain it. And your putting us on the same level as them? Interesting to note him mentioning how Siyad Barre turned away from Africa and leant more towards Arabs after 1974.
I'd rather be part of the Arab league and develop alliances with fellow Muslim Arab or non-arab countries than the East african confederation, IGAD and African Union...who will always support Kenya/Ethiopia/Uganda over us.
