Y-DNA haplogroup is only important in determining descent but it has no role in phenotype and the degree of relatedness between members of an ethnic group with more than one Y-DNA haplogroup. This is why autosomal DNA is so much more important as it determines degree of relatedness and thus phenotypical variation (or lack thereof) within an ethnic group. Somalis are essentially identical autsomally speaking regardless of their clan and their Y-DNA haplogroup.
