There is nothing wrong with being proud of your heritage or ethnicity but you don't have to tout racist ideology from the KKK to show that pride.

I am proud I am an Ethiopian
I am proud I am an African
And even though I won't have to identify as one in Ethiopia I recognize I fit the definition of a black person in the West...that is I am dark skinned person of African decent!

You don't have to make yourself look better by trampling on your brother and sisters from the continent.:manny:

Not true at all. The word black when used as an identity in the west is very loaded. For example in the U.S, having a big nose and kinky hair is also part and parcel of the "black" label even though not all dark skinned people from Africa have those features. West African features have become standardised throughout the whole continent and anyone who deviates from these features is 'diluted'. No, and I repeat NO Somali denies their skin colour. If you say black people are dark skinned people from Africa then there are no problems. But if black is a biological race, or West African features are the standard black features, then there are several problems.

I am not sure in what context you mean it because in the USA it means having African ancestry. You can literally be 50% white and still be called black if your other parent is of African ancestry. I feel like this is how most people understand it which is why it sounds weird when Somalis deny being black.

Don't conflate Race, Nationality, and Ethnicity

We don't claim it because it was literally from thousands years ago... Don't y'all claim all your clans were starter by Arabs:ayaanswag:
Its in your dna, why does matter how long ago its from?

Those myths are not the point here.

Like most mixed race negros, the black pride is a front for your fear of rejection from your other side.

Who cares? Who cares that white people identify u as black. We don’t care what the white man calls u. We don’t listen to him. He was never OUR master. WE define ourselves not others.

Black isn't a charity that needs you to identify with it

It really is. They'll take everyone and anyone that they can get.

How do you think this women bilked the "black" community for so long and built a career out of it?

Imagine this 100% European women calling you a self-hater for not identifying with a color. :siilaanyolaugh::dead:

Nope, people still recognise that they're mixed. That's why I mentioned that if you deviate from West African features you are 'diluted'. Like Drake is considered black, but people recognise he's mixed. Hence he 'deviates' from the "typical" black person. Same thing with Somalis, alot of black people think some Somalis are mixed because of our features, i.e we are part black (race) + middle eastern (another race), when we're just Somali, rather than recognising that Africa is diverse and we are biologically a different race but we are still dark-skinned people from Africa (black). Also the racial identification in the U.S is really messed up, due to its racist history and the one-drop rule so I think it's best we reject their toxic racial world view.

Bottom line is:

If black = dark-skinned person from Africa, while recognising the diversity of the peoples of the continent then no problem
If black = biological race encompassing all sub-saharan Africans and West/Central Africans are the standard black then massive problems.

If it's anti-black to make fun of big noses and kinky hair it should be anti-black to make fun of big foreheads

Now now you're projecting. We don't have other side. All my ancestors I can name were Ethiopian, so it would be weird if I said well 2 thousand years ago I had an " Arab" ancestor per some DNA test let me now claim them as my people....that sounds dumb.

Anyway. I claim my other African brothers and sisters because not out of fear of rejection from the "other side":susp: but because I really don't see the difference you guys see.

Be proud of your 50-60 % Middle Eastern ancestry too you self hater.

Or did you forget that you speak a Semitic language?

I agree. The one drop rule is very racist and should be done way with, however you can understand per current definition no matter how different you look if you have any ( not just West African) African ancestry you are considered black. Point blank. Ethiopians more then anyone understand Somalis view on this but most identify as black.

I think the issue comes with the word black becoming synonym for African Americans.

People feel they lose their heritage when put under that large umbrella understandably but you
guys can be less vitriolic about it. That's all.

Lol Somali can probably understand Arabic better then Ethiopians.

Anyways Ethiopia use to stretch into the middle east so those DNA's they are pinning as Arab could be long lost cousins:drakelaugh:

Btw 23 and me as calibrated their formula now that they have enough samples from the horn so many Ethiopians are getting 90% and up Ethiopian:siilaanyolaugh:

Now greet a fellow "cushite"

Yes that's true, but it also depends on where you live. Due to the one-drop rule the U.S definition of black might encompass a wider variety of facial features and skin tones, but thats not necessarily the same in other parts of the western world. For example, I've mentioned this before but outside of the U.S it's usually other Africans (not AAs) who say Somalis are not black, or a "different" type of black or diluted. They also hold the same view of you guys. Also it's only people on sspot or twitter troll accounts that spew vile things, it's definitely not representative of Somalis in the real world

Middle-eastern doesn't equate to "Arab". Proto-Cushites were of Eurasian origin, hence why Horn Africans are mostly of Eurasian/Cushite descent.

:ftw9nwa: I read this abstract from an article. Kkkkkk:siilaanyolaugh:

Not black, but Habasha: Ethiopian and Eritrean immigrants in American society

Abstract
In this article, I examine the identity choices of Ethiopian and Eritrean immigrants of Amhara, Tigrayan and Tigrinya ethnicity within the context of the larger debate on how non-white immigrants are being incorporated into American society. I argue that these immigrants resist racialization even while their actions and attitudes potentially reinforce America's racial divide. They implicitly challenge American racial categories by thinking of themselves as Habasha, which they view as a separate non-black ethno-racial category that emphasizes their Semitic origins. Meanwhile, they often distance themselves from American blacks through pursuing transnational connections, producing Habasha spaces, displaying the attributes of a ‘model minority’ and preserving Habasha beauty through endogamy. By remaining relatively isolated within their ethnic communities in Washington, DC, which is the focus of this study, they may succeed in differentiating themselves from American blacks, but they are not likely to join the American mainstream on a par with whites

Ramen

🌸
This looks much more Negroid than us and descends from slaves and is identifying with the people who held her ancestors as slaves. In no way comparable.
didnt white people rape their slaves? doesnt that mean that her ancestors served her ancestors and her ancestors forced her ancestors to work for them.

im confusion
