They feel instead of being apart of a label where their identity is constantly questioned its better to focus on what they are ethnically (which is a more static identity). Again I am not arguing against identify with your culture nor am I against people saying I am Somali instead of I am black. The problem is when people ( non African descent) say your are black, they are identifying you as someone of AFRICAN descent and not necessary of WEST AFRICAN descent, So the answer would then be yes I am black but I am also Somali, Ethiopian etc

These two identities are not mutually exclusive. You can be both black and Somali.

It is your prerogative not to use this label because you want to be seen as a special kind of Snowflake African but at the end of the day most people can not tell the difference.
