DDS are now 100% using Garacad port. RIP Somaliland economy.

It's not economically feasible.

Jijiga to Garacad is over 1000km

Jijiga to Berbera is just over 300km.

The Gulf of Aden (Red Sea) ports are an essential lifeline for Ethiopia. It was the Ethiopian federal government that signed off the Berbera deal and not a regional government because it's more economically advantageous. That's why the Ethiopians want a port and naval base in the Red Sea, not the Indian Ocean. Also take into consideration, trading routes. It's much more economically advantageous having a stronghold in the narrow waters leading to the Suez Canal where any trade will not be without its dividends.

Garacad will be a very good functioning port but it's sphere of service when looking at it from an economical standpoint will probably be Mudug, Nugaal, Galmudug and the border regions of DDS like Wardheer.

This is probably why Ethiopia will take a portion of the Red Sea coast by hook or by crook. Nobody can stop them. SL and Somalia are too weak to mount any pushback once Ethiopia gets international support.
It’s not really an issue of feasibility but qabyaalad and stupidity. Some DDS businessmen’s trucks were looted in Burco a few days ago because of their qabiil. They don’t feel safe doing business there anymore and I don’t blame them. They’ve switched over to Garacad and PL is taking advantage by welcoming them with open arms and waving border taxes on their trucks. Business will increase drastically between DDS and PL as a result. Reer SL did it to themselves. They have nobody to blame. Never mix qabiil and business. Unukalism won’t get you anywhere.

I think Jigjiga might not be the only town in the Ogaden region. I think there are more.
They think the end goal is just Jigjiga. I’ve already written that town off for Somalis having seen recent developments there and the takeover by Amhara/Oromo. The port will help develop both sides of the PL/DDS border. We will build a new Jigjiga, this time deep in the heartland of DDS where Oromo or Amxaaro can’t get to it. The same people live on both sides of the border.

Diversification and urban development are always good. Local communities are likely to see significant improvements in their livelihoods as a result. The focus should be bridging development gaps rather than turning it into a competition.

Where is the Lughaya port, buddy? You shouldn't be discussing matters unrelated to you when you don’t even have a port to call your own. If they want to change who they do business with, it's up to them.

:mjlol:Also, in the UAE, ports are everywhere. My advice: Focus on getting it together—build your local infrastructure (like roads), dust off the tarmac of Aden Issaq Airport in Borama and establish a port. It’s not even a major accomplishment. We shouldn't have to wait decades for Reer Awdal to do something.

If we're waiting for anyone else to build it on our behalf then we'll be in the same position for the next few decades. We built Borama ourselves to a high standard and is easily the safest and best Somali city to live in, we also built the road from Dilla to Borama and the dirt road from Borama to Baki. The diaspora have more than enough money to build 2 airports and one port easily. But we're waiting for a impoverished administration that can't even build paved roads in Hargeisa for handouts. We have to take some of the blame.

Berbera's main competition is Djibouti. Garacad will eat into Berbera's market share much like Bosaso has, but it is Djibouti that poses an existential threat to Berbera. The Jigjiga-Harmukale road is almost complete.

What will this road do? It will connect Jigjiga directly to the Dir Dhabe-Dewele-Djibouti road. This new road will reduce travel distance from Djibouti to Jigjiga by 110 KMs, from 485 KM to 375 KM. It will also mean that Somali trade will not be going through Oromia to get to Djibouti, a huge boost to safety. Berbera will still be closer to Jigjiga by some 60 KM, but that is outweighed by the better efficiency of the new Djibouti corridor.

Garacad and the newly expanded Bosaso will eat into Berbera's livestock exports, and imports of bulk goods (cement, grain, etc.) and fuel. Meanwhile, Djibouti is trying to re-monopolize the container business. The first is damaging, the second is deadly.

Lol where do you get this delusion from.

Bosaaso and Garacad are not container ports they both use a crane that's either on the ship or a truck to get items from a boat to the ground. This limits the type of ships that dock at a port.

wow you suggested a video of trucks lining up to collect items that they've ordered from Dubai etc.

The hatred you all have is crazy, work on yourself. Not what someone else is doing based on what historic lineage they have that has no basis to the success of your own life.

Somalis will keep boasting about wanting to keep Somalia united while hating on others and killing because my clan is better than your clan.

This dude needs to be stopped. His already working out the next dire dawa and babile type towns and is writing of jigjiga as going down that same path.

Bosaso has been expanded with a container capable port.

What do you mean about the volume of cargo and processing and storage is impacted between fixed cranes vs mobile cranes at ports? If your talking about load volume and processing times yes they do process larger volume and are faster but this doesn't mean containers can't dock in Bosaso or Garacad. Maybe I didn't read you well or maybe you were talking about volume of cargo and processing speeds.

Plus Garacad is fully containerised ports with four container docks and two under construction.

Do you know Garowe has water treatment plant now? Clean water to tap water in the house and Bosaso is getting a centralised gas plant with a grid redistribution system to homes for cooking.

Dude is crashing out because of imported goods. We have mobile cranes in Garacad and Bosaso capable of handling containers. We will kill Berbera market man, you can't do nothing.

Again....

Mobile Cranes not port specific cranes. These cranes are mainly used for construction has been placed at the port.

These are mobile cranes to be used at port: in use in Berbera

As @repo duly noted those fixed port handling cranes will be dismantled when DDSI arrive in Garacad as Berbera won't have any more large volume trade besides Hargeisa imports by the way Burco and Erigavo are apart of the PL cross border trade zones bro which stretches thru all SSC, Makhir, Up to Beletwayne and now 80% of DDSI.

Tadjoura is getting a piece of the action too.

I predicted this would happen. All of these ports will compete and Ethiopia will be the ultimate winner as fees get whittled away.

I said this years ago only winner is the client when he has so many ports to choose from, prices reduce to the lowest denominator possible, plus it also gives them redundancy if their is a disagreement to go somewhere else. I always told PL, stay out of this game, noone wins. Yes we need a port, yes we need trade zones but damn we need to also migrate away of it or mix it up with other newer industries.

A cement plant would be a great money maker considering the development happening nation wide. Plus it serves as various materials for other products globally. The limestone are in PL(high grade too judging by the aging and light colour and why their are foreign people doing inspection on our rocks grade), I'm not sure what makes extracting limestone process so difficult, setting up the mixture formula needed and equipments and storing it in a warehouse(long life product unlike agriculture) and selling it to construction or retail companies by the tonne or kilos, PL truckers will get loads of job to drop of deliveries.

The best business model is something you can store and hold and not sell at a loss due to expiry dates of perishables. Those rocks r god blessing for PL. Their going after silly farming, I am taking my rock radar 😁
