We weren't allowed to speak Dutch in our house growing up. So it does depend on the kind of household. As a chauvinistic male, I take pride in my background. I noticed that Younger Somalis who have a cultural identity are much more successful than the washed away wannabes and they speak the language of their adopted country much better compared to their washed away counterparts. I pity the ones that do speak but act like they can't.

Real story. I studied as an exchange student in Turkey for a semester. I was doing some preparations and ended up in a whatsapp group of Somali students in Turkey( don't ask me how, I'm not proud of it). To my astonishment, these FOBs, who grew up in Xamarjajab and Ceelbuur and been studying in Turkey for less than a year, were all speaking and typing in Turkish language. I was like
