I was born with two Somali parents. A father that descended from a major Somali clan. I descended from his linage (which makes me genetically and traditionally 100% Somali) You have no rights in stripping my identity away from me. Tumaal, Madhibaan and other ethnic somali clans that practice crafts or hunting are not outcasted, the hatred against them is overplayed. People don’t know they also have a lot of livestock.
Major clans did not treat them as some sort of dalits which some somalis are pushing. Undeniably there exist some dislike, outright hatred against them but whats the difference between that and the hatred between major clans? None in my opinion.
Matter of fact our traditional religious orders (sufi tariqas) were major source of protection and uplifting of reer Gabooye. Many sheikhs are Gabooye, matter of fact Madhibaan comes from a name of a sheikh. Also dislike against Gabooyes (umbrella term) varies wildly, down south they are not hated like in the north.

Most Somalis look down on marrying minorities. Another case study: There’s a stigma in marrying and including Somali Bantus in mainstream Somali society. They had history in wanting to be part of Somali politics. What’s funny is I have more privilege than them due to being from a major clan.
I see Somali Bantus as culturally Somali but biologically would be debatable.

This discussion is not being addressed properly. If Islam is the major identity which Somalis are fighting for then explain the civil war? Why couldn’t Somalis come together as one nation under the Ummah banner? Why did they have to kill each other over clan bullshit. which supports my case when I say Somalis are clan based society not religious based. Sure the majority are Muslim which is somewhat true.
