Actually, you are wrong, both Sultanates, Majeerteen Sultanate, and Sultanate of Hobyo signed agrements with the Italians making their kingdoms protectorates, they were not subject to colonial rule like in south somalia, the terms of the agreements Sultan kenaadid and Boqor Osman signed, included minor economic concsession (access to port) and that Italians would stay clear of internal affairs of the Sultanates, they were never under occupation during the time of the Sayyid.
