Diaspora Somalis will not be naming their kid Abdi as much as our parents. Only fobs will be naming they’re kids Abdi

I don't get why Soomaalida give their kids Islamic (Arab names) while other ethnic whom are muslim like their Persians will have tradional first or surnames. for example Mohammed Arash but with Somalis it would be Maxamuud Maxamuud instead Maxamuud Samatalis.

Well Somalis don't use surnames like the persians or Iranians do

Why would an Arab name their kids Samatalis,Guled,Tifow,Arliyo,Segal or Raaqiyo of course not, so why i should give them Arab or foreign name warya

Theres difference between Islamic and Arab names, alot of traditional Arab names in Arabia that Somalis never use for their names

I disagree the diaspora would indeed be at the fore front of a Somali cultural Renaissance. Many people will choose Somali names then Arabic more then our parents imo

For names though I love names like Hirsi, Fartuun, Farhiya and Ulluso.

TBH kids I have would be named Islamically most likely though Yunis, Issa, Abdullah, Sumaya, Jamila and Jamal.

Adam would work out for an Arabic name that could be accepted in a western setting.

For a Somali name Bilih would work out as Billy.

Thats you for me i will never make my future kids stinky Arab names and ethnic names are part of their identity. Would a Ghanian mock their names even thought it don't sound appealing stupid self hating iool
