First oil drilling in Somalia will start this year

Due to the 30+ years of civil war, we missed out on the best period for oil production and to make crazy profit.

With a little bit of planning, we could use the profit from the oil sales to rebuild the country. Our population is not that large.

We have a lot of corrupt leaders in our country, and I hope we don't end up like Nigeria.

Got to get that oil while we still can. Oil has like 10-20 years left before countries reduce their need, however the need will always be there.

This reminds me of Hobyo port will it ever be complete? Puntland has the most oil I watched a meeting with delegates from different countries and HSM had to keep reassuring them Puntland is part of it. This is without offshore exploration being done.

Disagree sxb. Every inch of this country and it’s resources belong to all of us. Although the sharing agreement does give the region of origin bigger share.
Trust us Somalis need to understand that the whole country should also benefit from our national resources this will lead to peace and security instead of saying unuka leh

The New Constitution HSM is going to pass says All Natural Resources will be Nationalised that means it's owned by every single Somali and the money we get it from will be used to build the Entire Country.

Different times different policies we need to evolve at the end of the day we are Recognized as part of Somalia so we need to work together to achieve our goals.

what oil company is gonna come drill oil in Puntland if the the federal government is not involved.

we’ve already seen an example of this in Somaliland who have been humiliating themselves for 34 years for recognition they haven’t moved forward at all do you want
follow in there example??

it seems like you cannot think for yourself and you form all of your opinions based on emotion and qabiil.

I think you also forget that abdullaui yusuf was also the president of Somalia

U dont wanna quick succes its not good in the long term, just look at the quick successful countries they are quickly crumbling down, we need slow success

If this was the 1960s or 1970s Somalia, I would agree, take it slow but like Angola in the 1990s, Somalia today has to catch up with the rest of the world and similar to Angola the flow of oil could help Somalia leapfrog the rest of Africa with ease, even with HSM’s corruption. An extra $45 billion a year for the National Budget would be transformational in every aspect.

With the help of the Chinese they are also building up an Industrial base where they can slowly wean off their dependency on oil;

Remember that Angola is an extremely corrupt country, where the previous ruling family were literal billionaires, yet the country as a whole still benefited from the large scale infrastructure projects and reconstruction after a devastating war. What Somalia needs to do different is making sure the wealth trickles down to the entire society. Somalia is no longer a one-city state, there are multiple major cities across the country, multiple regions that are being developed, and multiple checks and balances between the major clans that could ensure that the oil revenues become a force-multiplier like in Norway or the Gulf countries rather than a curse.

The reason why that entire country's wealth fell into the hands of one family is because the natural resources weren't nationalised it was privatised Somalia is different All the money will go to projects for the people not individuals

More like to the pockets of the elite and their friends, it will be fine if they keep they corruption to European standard, and hopefully not the American standard.
