This demonstrates a fundemental misunderstanding of patterns of settlement in Somalia. Galmudug has very few farmers. Farmers live in homes that show up on satellite imagery. So the entire urban and farming population of Bay are visible, while for largely nomadic Galmudug only the urban population is visible.

You are not comparing overall populations.

We've got multiple population estimates from different sources all the way back since the Kaacan era, that gives us a rough idea of the population of these places. Saying that the population of Hiiraan is 70% smaller than it actually is, is simply from whatever angle false.

Hiiraan is estimated to have a population of 550-600k, and Bay's population is around 1 million.
