In the west marrying isn’t seen as was back in the good old days. It’s cluttered with divorce rate and immature couples who rather drop everything and run away from each other than fix their issues and look out for the long term effect rather than their short term petty squabbles. What’s the point of marrying if you know down the line the percentage of losing so much more is greater than the happiness you’ll gain at the beginning of the marriage. It’s scary may Allah helps us all.

Sad, but you are right. I have seen alot of friends marriages fail, to the point I realized our generation collectively takes the sanctity of marriage as a joke. 🤷🏿‍♂️

It’s 50/50 I went to a bunch of weddings this summer alone but at the same time the amount of single people I know in that age range is crazy it’s definitely a worrying trend if this continues

we need to stop saying that we need to get married at late 20s 30s, that’s selfish in terms of your children who in 20 years later when your children are into adulthood you and your wife would be too old, feels as though you are a grandad/ma rather than a dad and on the verge of death, plus you will unlikely to see your grandkids. There are also the risk of birth defects etc in older couples.

Most Somalis born and raised in the west have zero social skills with opposite sex Somalis. The blame lies with sex segregating Somali parents who would frown upon and shame them for doing so once they hit puberty and then not help them find partners to the extent other ethnicities do. I also blame unrealistic standards for partners. Compare this to other ethnicities who fall in love and stick by each others' side after meeting in high school or social gatherings despite being broke and without direction at a young age. Somali youth are more concerned about meher price, wedding venues, if traditional roles will be followed, and a pile of other bullshit rather than getting to know the person and clicking with them. They see marriage as a business agreement. It's no wonder.

What about the younger kids then. I’m older but I have an 11 yr old sister. Are you going to call parents selfish as well for having lots of kids and having some later in life?

come on man, I know what you’re advocating and you’re right but you lot need to understand that everyone has a time line and that even if you do marry young, you are still going to ‘old’ parents if you have a lot of kids or you space your kids out.

Also, talking about birth defects is a joke. Many women get married young, but still have children at 35+. Do you recommend that they stop having children with their husbands after their 20s, like what is the end goal here?

Answer my questions sincerely as I do believe that both men and women should aim to marry in their 20s. I just disagree with the scaremongering as young mothers always still continue having kids well up into their early 30s as I’ve mentioned my younger sister and I have a big age gap and I also have an older sister who is in her 30s whilst the youngest is 11.

Many people in my age group from 25-30 are getting married or already married in Canada (specifically Toronto-GTA area).This summer was full of weddings whether to Somalis or other Muslim ajanbis.Western Somalis will marry and have children we just won’t have as much children as our immigrant parents

Its still a minority...
I'm from toronto, 65% of that age range are still single...
