These guys sound like those Egyptians saying they arenβt African when it has nothing to do with race or culture itβs purely based on geographyYou share a geographic location. East Africa has diverse cultures, I don't think people deny that.
I hate this East African nonsense, it's such dog shit. Wtf do me and a fucking Ugandan have in common?
Two Somali supermarkets in my village, popped up from nowhere 4-5 years ago. This region is only inhabited by Luos, especially Muhoroni. You might find a few bantus but they're in the minority.I hate this East African nonsense, it's such dog shit. Wtf do me and a fucking Ugandan have in common?
It's not about "madows" I feel the same way towards Ethiopians or middle easterners. I don't hate or dislike anyone. What's so wrong with me saying that we are different? You sound ignorant, the Somalis currently residing in these countries aren't online beefing over nonsense. Don't you think there are Muslims in other East African countries as well? This petrol station is run by Somalis, it's in my hometown.

It's as far from Somalia as you can get in a small village (Muhoroni) in Western Kenya. They moved here on their own volition and seem to have settled quite nicely.

I was also surprised to find a Somali restaurant owner settled among the Kalenjin when I visited Kericho (also in Western Kenya /Rift Valley). I asked a Kale to take me to a restaurant where I can taste traditional Kalenjin food. Low and behold, a Somali man with a big smile walks out serving me Mursik. A person with your mindset will never make it anywhere in life because you have a miserable attitude. If Somalis feel like "Madows" are so different then why are they moving to our towns/villages? I can only speak for myself, but I wouldn't move somewhere I didn't feel comfortable.

Why settle in Southwestern Kenya if you don't want to be around Madows? There is a whole community of Somalis speaking our local language.

I don't care about people and their nation states I'm speaking about this pan east African identity people try to pushWhy do you assume East Africans see each other as the same people? I identify by my tribe first, then my nationality. I'm closer to Luos living in Tanzania, Uganda, DRC, Ethiopia, and South Sudan than any Kenyan, but we still live in the same territory. The difference is that I don't wake up telling my neighbours that we are different because there is no need to state the obvious. A Somali living in Kenya has a lot more in common with a Kikuyu than he cares to admit. That doesn't make him any less Somali.
East Africa is the region where Somalia is located. We are "different" just like every other ethnicity on the African continent, so stop acting like we're unique in that regardIt's not about "madows" I feel the same way towards Ethiopians or middle easterners. "East African body genetics" "East African facecard" & the flags include Congo & Mauritius
Not sure what cultural attire you're referring to but the dirac was worn along the Swahili Coast and I've yet to see Congolese men walking around in Macawiis. They also use that term to steal Somali cultural attire. That is what irritates me the most. This fake homogenisation. Truthfully, we do not share culture, language and often, not even a religion.
No beef needed but let us keep it real.

The dirac was appropriated by Swahilis and everyone knows it. And the only Arabs that wear it are those influenced by Somalis aka Adeni Yemenis. I don't know why you East Africans have a fixation with watching Somalis, and also trying to erase our cultural footprint.
They cannot even pronounce diraC and then want to claim it is theirs. SMH.
The confusion between Somalis and other communities in Kenya arises from a myriad of things.Erase your cultural footprint? I think you're reading too much into this. If you don't like other cultures wearing diracs then blame the Somali merchants who exported them. What other cultural attire has been stolen, and by who? I really don't see the homogenisation you're talking about so please enlighten me with specific examples.
The confusion between Somalis and other communities in Kenya arises from a myriad of things.
For one Kenya is like a mixed multitude of nations/tribes etched together by the British "East African" company.
Somalia on the other hand was historically inhabited by ethnic Somalis that formed continual historical civilizations. The Land of Punt, Macrobia and numerous powerful regional Sultanates.
Cushites have been in East Africa since the Neolithic, and have been a distinct ethnic cultural block for thousands of years.
Despite all of this, it is not lost on Somalis that many in "East Africa" hold a deeply problematic fixation and mistrust towards us. From downplaying our historical, cultural and religious influence in the region to outright xenophobia.
This is why meaningless colonial titles like "East Africa" hold no significant place in Somali identity, as we inherently realise where it came from.
We see how misguided Africans emulate European rhetoric without fully comprehending what they are doing. This is why it is not difficult to find echo chambers that try to reduce our culture to a bastardised Arab mix, and hence imply that it is fair game to mistreat, downplay, steal and even outright destroy us as a people.
