"I Have The Somali Version of White Guilt."

I have a confession to make.

The reason I don't take offense when somalilanders and other reer waqooyi tribes talk smack about reer konfur is because deep down, I feel ashamed of some of my relatives and their active participation in the Issaq genocide. You see, some of my grandfathers worked closely with Siad Barre, unfortunately.

Although I'm happy to ran into a fellow somali, a part of me gets anxious if they are reer waqooyi. I think, I hope they don't resent me for what my relatives did. They'll be justified to but I just hope they don't.

I've had fellow reer konfur chastise me saying "Naya dhig malihid miyaa?!" What dhig? You mean the dhig my ancestors spilled in thousands? One even told me I have "the somali version of white guilt" and to quit it because technically, I didn't kill any isaaq person.

However, for true reconciliation to happen, we, the descendants of the people who were involved in this massacre, should at least acknowledge that it was horrible, and are deeply ashamed and apologetic for what our relatives did to Isaaqs and other waqooyi tribes who were affected.

why should reconciliation happen though.

What's the point in feeling guilt?

If you didn't take part in atrocities, you shouldn't feel guilty

It's important to be aware of our history + not to deny such things, but don't waste mental energy on useless guilt. It ain't helping anyone.

There is no such thing as “white guilt ” every ethnic group has committed atrocities it’s human nature

I’m so glad Trump is back in a landslide so this woke progressive nonsense can die out and return to being a fringe movement

there's a strong difference between acknowledging and understanding tragedies that may have been done by "your people" (whatever demographic that may entail) and actively working towards fixing those problems, vs taking very literal guilt at actions you yourself haven't committed

Don't confuse the two and don't allow those lines to be blurred

MAGA don't like you or anything you stand for and their actions will simply mobilise the "woke" further.

And just because leftist identity politic spewers have bastardised an idea doesn't make it wrong, the notion that a group that committed an atrocity should actively remember it and try to work towards fixing these problems is 100% the correct way to go about it

it's just that the modern "woke left" are insincere with this notion and instead use former tragedies as a stick to beat that demographic with whenever convenient

Honestly,I have no hard feelings with Reer Koonfur ama Jabartis in general if they didn't stop glorifying Kacaan iyo Afweyne in the same breath whilst asking themselves and us why we seceded.

You just feel guilty for what your ancestors did. That’s understandable and makes you more self-aware than 90%+ of Somali people, across all clans. You must know that you are your own person though and you did not commit any crimes. No reason for you to feel some type of way towards reer Waqooyi IRL or even bring this stuff into the diaspora.

Comparing it to white guilt is stupid though. There are no differences between any clans, not even close no records of oppression to each other at all. In fact a lot of people feel some sort of complex towards reer Waqooyi rather than the other way around.

If my memory serves me right, you told us you had a date with a Somali guy, and he's started farting in your first encounter. Did you marry the guy? If you did, how are you handling those endless farts that the nigga was unleashing on you?
