Is anyone here agnostic/atheist or non-religious?

I consider myself agnostic/non-religious as of recently

Never opened the quran before, never prayed, my friends would ask if i prayed, i lied saying i did.

My parents never really made an effort to get me into the religion, maybe because they just wanted to escape the troubles during the civil war.

I still celebrate ramadan and eid though, I haven't told my parents that I'm not religious, I'm pretty sure they'd be really mad

But I think more Somalis are becoming non-religious, why is this?

How religious are your parents? Also, never share this with your parents. Maybe you're going through a phase but even if you go for good, they don't need to know.

My dad is pretty religious but my mom isn't, maybe this is just a phase idk, but I live in a very secular country and the youth aren't very religious here either, muslims and christians.

A lot of Somalis were like that in my high school throughout 2019-2022. Many Somalis drank but would celebrate Eid and fast for Ramadan. At some point, being culturally Muslim will also be a thing in Europe and North America.

I still don't plan on drinking or anything, also the thought of eating bacon would gross me

I don’t take the term “Culturally Muslim” seriously. You either practice the faith or you don’t. However being a cultural Muslim in some ways does makes sense. If your parents are highly religious but you aren’t this is gonna create difficult relationships between you and your families. It’s easier to fast and celebrate Eid in order to connect with your familes. But the thing is being a Muslim is all about believing in the ones of God. You either believe or you don’t. Simple. Only Jews can go with these terms. Since their religion comes with culture and religion.

I suspect my brothers think the same as me, since we were all raised non religious, I was never taught how to pray, didnt open a quran once

Could I even call myself Muslim?

Do you believe in “Allah” and his messengers? Do you believe in Mohammed as his final messenger?
This is the first pillars of Islam btw. If you don’t then you aren’t a Muslim.

I don't know, I'm still figuring out. I consider myself Agnostic not Atheist, I still believe there's a creator

I’m also agnostic I left Islam about a year ago I haven’t told anyone and people think I’m still Muslim I think it’s all ethnicities that are becoming less religious studies show 25% of Muslims who grow up in the USA end up leaving the religion

Same I also finished the Quran and studied in a Salafi school my growing up leaving Islam was very hard the first few weeks I felt weak my whole life was a lie and life felt like it had no purpose

@Galool

Come look at this gaalo convention they're having in here, mate. This is what liberal anti-Islam atheists actually look like, so I'd really appreciate it if you stopped chasing me down thread-to-thread with your baseless accusations of me being an atheist who's infiltrated this website to convert other Somalis outta the diin, cheers.
