Isaaq genocide

Siad Barre made many, many mistakes, and this is one of them.
He was similar to our dictator in Ethiopia at the time, Mengistu.
Had he been smart, he would negotiated with the Isaaq and addressed their grievances, for the sake of an united Somalia.
I also would like to say, hate em or love em, those Isaaq are strong, they endured genocide, mobilized their people, and formed a strong army, the SNM, and freed themselves.

He was very brash and did not believe in negotiation. Didn't mengistu also bomb tigray and eritrea in 1988.

Unfortunate but these things happened through out history.

Time to forgive and move on
some Landers might have parents that died during this period or were forced to flee. when your own mother is able to recount the horrors of an attempted genocide its hard to "forgive and move on" but inshallah it will happen with time

You know if that happens the first war of an independent PL will be against Somaliland for Sool Sanaag.

Becareful what you wish for. Need to make sure that doesn't happen as there are People on both sides that want war for their own benefit.

To control both territories should be done using soft power.

It is a terrible crime committed by Siad Barre's goons that threatens existence of Somalia as a unified state. If Somaliland separates from Somalia other federal states will most likely follow suit.

Not to mention it will have wide spread consequences on the identity of Somali people as a group. We'll be made an example, a laughing stock of the entire world in 10 years with more & more people being aware of the main article on Wikipedia. Same people, same race, same language, same religion, same sect found a way to massacre each other wholesale based on tribal enmity

It is getting high priority & exposure on Wikipedia Philosophy project. Soon enough they will produce more documentaries, reviews & breakdown featuring the manner of which Muslim Africans genocide their own people.
