My guess is they want to be like Tutsi's in Rwanda and distinguish themselves from other Somalis by taking advantage of 88 as a rallying event for Isaaq people. Almost the entire world holds Rwanda (Tutsi ruling class) ) in favorable light on how they went pass their own genocide and prospered into one of Africa's most developed and peaceful countries. They can properly accomplish that but the sad part is they could have also participate/host/accelerate Somalia's reconciliation efforts and pull Somalia all together from never ending civil war. Regardless of how much it has been repeated & abused to death by Somaliland media, it has effectively installed a deep seated form of generational trauma. You got kids born in 2000's being taught about how other Somalis especially the Darod led government used state apparatus in open and naked attempt to genocide and uproot them from their homelands.

Yes it's sad that this has occurred and others similar to it.However do remember the SNM did win the war and the prove of it is state today that millions live in.Countless academic have written papers about Somalilands success story.. where does it happen in the world history that people that suffered from genocide elect 5 different leaders in 30 years, with functioning courts, military, police, local government and 2 parlamients?
