The idea of Somaliland countering the Houthis seems unrealistic. The Houthis have already been in a stalemate with the Gulf Cooperation Council , despite the latter's massive investments in high-tech military equipment. Somaliland, which struggles to secure its own claimed territory and is incredible poor, wouldn't be a serious player in this context. The United States has focused its support on the Federal Government of Somalia and the federalist model there. Meanwhile,
the UK, once a strong proponent of Somaliland among Western countries supporting Somalia, has become less influential on the global stage.

SL secessionism has never been farther away.

If Warsangeli want to leave Puntland, so be it. The reason why we had clan based division of MPs is that Warsangeli and Dhulbahante refused a population based distribution. With them gone, we can just have simple democracy.

I think we should insist on a union between SSC and Maakhir into a single state as the price of Puntland relinquishing all of its claims. SSC is not viable and Maakhir is even less viable, but together they are no different from Galmudug. It is in our interests to at least make sure Harti Woqoyi are in a single state.

This is a worse out come than Puntland remaining united, but it is preferable to having 2 unviable states with no hope of becoming FMS’.
