South Sudan and Eritrea had referendums, in which Muslims and Christians, Dinka and Nuer, voted 99.8% and 98.8% respectively in favor of independence. If there is a referendum in Woqoyi it is possible that the yes vote would not reach 25% in Awdal. Somaliland has no path to independence now. It did 20 years ago.

Could be a lot of things, but Barre going there and potentially recognizing SSC would, on paper at least, mean that the federal government controls one-third of Somaliland. Recognizing a state that lacks territorial integrity is simply something that the West historically does not have an appetite for.
The fact is that the buzzing about recognition has ramped up in the last few months, this probably is a tactic to win over the IC by the FG.

So what prevented the FGS recognize Khatumo or assist them in their fight against the seccesionists when they needed it the most? Xamse is not able to recognize anything unless culusow tells him to anyways.. I don't trust the FGS, but I'm wishing all the best to our brothers in Laascanood. Hope something beneficial comes out of the visit.. New arms, bases and finance for the SSC army would be great.

Because the play was for it to coincide with the creation of a new Lower Shabelle (which is under direct federal control) + Banadir state to maintain the equilibrium between Hawiye and Darood federal states. Besides the fact that the federal government is incredibly poor to meaningfully come out in support, you also had PL, which at times has a confusing relationship with SSC, due to overlapping border claims, while in spirit supporting the existence of the state.
Some Somalis of the political class still believe that Somaliland can be integrated wholly back into Somalia and would rather have the entire state be an Federal State within the FGS than split it up.

Both Sool & Sanaag are mixed regions of SL, with Sanaag being an Isaaq majority and Sool as a sizable minority, both prorovomces especially Sool already have extremely tiny populations akin to neighbourhoods in Hargeisa.This just shows the Isaaq numerical superiority will continue to remain in SL. Especially as our rural nomads seeking economic opportunities with high fertility continue to leave Hawd & Fafaan region of Ethiopia to SL.Isaaqs need to wake up and smell the coffee. Jabarti seeks their geneocide. These militias must be destroyed asap but it seems like Cirro has no interest in confronting these Eastern Sool militias. He is so weak that he is willing to even abandon his electoral base of the East (HY & HJ).
