[RBX-DEV] Anyone interested in game development?

Sup, it's Steeq (Saddiq)!

So, basically, like on the title RBX does mean Roblox, I'm talking about that platform you've probably seen your younger siblings play if you're not familiar with it. Some people like to dunk on it just because Roblox is a big platform with a large audience of minors. But in my view, it's extremely profitable. I've worked on projects and done commissions—some went nowhere and ended up straight in the trash, but others did well, and I still get a percentage from those even though I’m no longer actively working on them. So far made around $36k USD on the plateform through DevEx (How Devs Exchange Robux->USD ). I know that doesn't sound like alot, however I am very early into my career, and haven't fully released a single project of my own yet. I've met hand full of Somalis that were in the same feild as me, don't want to drop names, but 2 are doing better numbers than me, 3 are in the same boat as me, but aren't programmers, and the rest are time wasters, the "idea man" type, where they don't provide anything to the table, but expect to build a team for there own dream projects. However with this forum I'd like to meet some of my own people who want in, not in the sense of building a team for my own studio, but just more of a community focused direction.

How does game development work on roblox?

I'll speak as if you don't know anything about it. Roblox games although some are jokes, and others look like they belong somewhere else entirely.
Roblox devs make money through a mix of user purchases, playtime engagement, and direct payouts. Unlike Steam or Unity, Roblox is like YouTube for games, with more ways to earn directly from players. Premium Stipends pay devs for keeping Premium (paid subscription) users engaged in their games. If a lot of Premium players spend time in a game, Roblox rewards the dev for that playtime. Sales of Goods (Ingame-Currancy / One or Monthly Payments) is a major revenue stream where devs create and sell in-game items like skins, weapons, or game passes for Robux, the virtual currency players buy with real money. This Robux can be converted to cash through DevEx (Developer Exchange), making Sales of Goods highly profitable for devs with popular games. Premium Payouts add to earnings based on how much time Premium players spend in a game. The longer they stay, the more the dev earns from a shared payout pool, acting like a bonus for keeping players engaged. Group Payouts are a way to distribute earnings within dev teams, where the group owner can pay members directly from the game’s earnings, useful for larger projects. Together, these features mean Roblox devs can make money through multiple streams without relying solely on direct sales, earning both from playtime and purchases. DevEx lets them cash out the Robux they’ve earned into real money, creating an easy, profitable cycle for active games.

Scripting Aspect: https://luau.org/
Are built using Luau, a programming language which is not the same as Lua but built using subsets from a version that came out on 2006. Luau includes optimizations for performance, type-checking, and debugging tools tailored to game development on Roblox, making it versatile for creating complex game mechanics, UI, and custom systems.

Everything else is the same as any other game engine, Blender or any 3d modeling software works, .obj / .fbx / .png / .jpg / etc all works even bones/pbr texture, just no shaders uploads!

Keep in mind, game development is challenging in general—a lot harder than most areas within the IT bubble. However, it's also one of the most rewarding fields if you manage to overcome the hurdles that cause so many projects and studios to fail. Success in game dev means creating a product that isn't a one-time purchase or disposable content like a movie or video; instead, it offers the opportunity to build high-retention formulas that generate passive income over time. Once the core game system is fully built and optimized, it becomes a self-sustaining 'money machine' that can keep generating revenue with minimal upkeep. In essence, the real payoff is in achieving that stability—something few manage to reach, but those who do can see long-term financial rewards with little to no ongoing work.

As far as the community I want to build goes, I'll be active working on my projects when I am online, however if I do have spare time can give lessons or tips, even help code if you are getting started.

Here are studios that are hiring for there own games to give perspective in the field:

Creator Studio of Bedwars / Islands:

Another Studio Called: Voldex
1730094292909.png

Creator Studio Of Tower Defense Simulator: (Offering $85,000-95,000 Salary)
1730094365998.png

many more averaging $70k as minimum
but it's far more profitable like in the near millions profitable to do a indie or even solo studio such as myself!

I use to to play roblox a lot and I know a lot about what youre talking about, took a look at your stuff and I didnt know roblox created a whole portfolio creator area, it looks like their taking this idea to whole new level. 36000 is a good amount of money from roblox Thats like if I remember correctly it was 100k for a 300$, im sure they changed up the system now since.

I have tried to make a game a lot of times especially during the pandemic when I had a lot of time. I had no clue how to code and such and use to watch a lot of tutorials on how to add stuff like sprinting, safezone. I never did anything to advanced, because I didnt take it too serious at the time, I was never interested in coding and honestly it was pretty hard I was to young back then to take anything serious.

What my expertise was trading, What they did to roblox trading is the reason I quit they botched the entire system. Thats after I got beamed when someone social engineered into my email somehow and stole 270000 worth of limited items. They refused to roll it back since i had already used one to rollback 10K which is pocket change. This happened years ago, I wouldve never been able to convert to USD anyways since you can only do DEVEX through robux earned thru games.

There was one game I made with minimal coding involved, all the coding I needed I could easily find from youtube. It was a game I made for an roblox event and it would help tell you where you would find the items aswell as sharing leaks. I honestly spent like 1-2 months working on it, and when the event was started to come around the game started getting popular out of nowhere. First it was 30, then 70 and it eventually peaked around 400. Of course this would fluctuate but I got a consistent 400 players while the event lasted. That hype fizzled out by the end of the event but It was a crazy. I wish I took more advantage of it, I had no monetization included in the game I shouldve added something but I ended up making around 13000 robux from just premium payouts and commissions from items people bought. The most monetization I did was plug my youtube channel in the game lol.

it did inspire me I made a couple games after that, I was already use to roblox studio I tried making a city game once and also used it to get models of people to export to blender. Blender is a whole different beast I had to rely 99% on tutorials. But I did try making a hangout game after, I put a whole lot of time into it added some GUI with a store you could buy admin and radio pass, a well built map and I stayed away from free models and made my own buildings. You know what happened? My game miserably failed, I even put a lot into advertising and it never took off.

After that, I remember making a few other games but I just lost interest like 2 years ago. I was not passionate enough to learn coding and that was a major road block.
IT looks like you have it all down though, I cant really comment on your coding since I have no experience but that arrow animation while the game ran was pretty impressive and I have no clue how you would do something like that, I'm illiterate in coding...
But your builds look good aswell as your gui,
but coding seems to be your main talent.

Well good luck to you

(whole lotta yap)
Honestly, I don’t really get why you posted your whole life story, just to leave it with an open-ended remark. Not gonna lie, I was a bit annoyed. First person to message, and they go on a rant about an "I tried and quit" story, only to end with "good luck to you." Like, seriously? You just wasted 10 minutes of my time making me read a whole lot of nothing.

However, if you’re interested, hit me up. I’m looking for friends or future peers who want to test my current projects or even become developers. Outside of uni and my job, I should be fairly active!

Brother, the fact of the matter is it's not the same. In fact, I'll just lay it out for you, being petty and all.

A: I've not quit, nor am I anything comparable to you, based on the comparison made from your story.
B: I've made it clear on all areas, to not reply if you ain't interested at the beginning in large bold letters and short an

d direct.

C1: My goal was to inspire from my progress, show expertise to allow others to build interest in joining.

C2: Your goal was clearly to be validated from this little hobby that didn't go anywhere which made you to give up on because you weren't that committed to actually get to learning and build yourself to build something instead of just playing around.

WHAT I WANTED AND WHY:

As for what I wanted you to do, I wanted you to get to a point in your message that shows interest in joining me; otherwise, don’t post anything at all. Whether you want to pray for my downfall is up to you.

The only reason I got irritated enough to lay this out for you is because I understand how Roblox development isn’t taken seriously by society in general. Any form of creating content online outside of social media is considered nerdy or dorky. To present an angle as I’ve attempted is fragile—if someone like you tries to show affiliation or connection and comes across as dorky, my whole case becomes unappealing, decreasing my chances of attracting any normal people to join my journey. I completely understand where I posted this, but my initial thought was that it was worth a try, considering someone else found a small group with an engineering focus.

However currently since another nigga named Ghengis Kaarhis joined in talking about Somali Nintendo, it’s established we are cooked. Won’t delete anything, but I’ll give up on the stance I attempted initially. Feel free to talk—I don’t care anymore.

OUT OF PETTY-NESS:

A:

You mentioned 30k is good amount, pulled out the incorrect conversion rate, which always been
(100k RBX = 350 USD) -> (30k RBX = 105 USD) DevEx Rates,
made me think you thought 30k RBX is what i made,
and you compared that to your 13k RBX
I want to inform it's 30k USD, as stated clearly in my inital post, meaning 8,571,429 Robux
we not the same dawg, i understand i removed the porition you earned from limitieds but i never traded so ion really care for it

you're over blowing all of this, if you want I can request an admin to delete my message because I guess our interpretations of interest is different. Its not everyday that someone brings up Roblox on here and I guess you were looking to build a community.

But some of the things you call me out on are completely wrong, sure I did go on a little tangent but u did too, and you got petty about it too.
I was not seeking validation nor was I showing off, I was just sharing my experience. Which pales in comparison to your work, I acknowledged that.

thats right I didnt want to join your team or community, but did have interest in the post so I replied. thats why I spoke about Roblox development, I mean then I just viewed it as dont derail my thread to talk about Roblox and lets keep it development focused.

I don't know how my post contributes to that feeling, I guess you felt my post felt dorky or something to you so it ruined your already fragile position of promoting your Roblox game development and your community. I mean I see what you've done, you've explained rblx development down to the bare level, went thru your background and talked about how it is a real opportunity to make money if you can break thru. You were looking for people to form a community with.

so ur basically trying to say my post ruined your prospects of finding a 'normal' person because I shared my experience on the subject and gave u goodluck, aswell as boosting your thread a bit. I also did give accurate information and another perspective, at the time and even now I don't see how it diminished the quality of your original post or the chance of your finding 'normal' talent.

I don't know what you were expecting but you just started crashing out and overblew the entire post, In fact that probably did more harm to your post then anything else. That could've just gone by and contributed to the thread, or you could've privately discussed with me to remove my rbx dev experience wisents what you wanted. You could've even reported it if you wanted and explained your situation there. Sure, I went on a little bit of a tangent maybe it got to dorky in your view but it does not warrant this at the end of the day its a public forum and my intention was to help and congratulate you...

You even took a stab at the poor guy ghengis :mjlol:

you misinterpreted me , as I clearly was talking about USD, of course it didnt compare.

your entire response caught me off guard, I'll apologize for whatever you felt I did wrong:samwelcome:
